Did the Ecossais Royal participate in any actual battles during either the War of Austrian Succession or Seven Years War, apart from the various sieges they were involved in, or their participation in the Jacobite Rebellion. Rod |

According to Kronoskaf ( link ) not much more than that. But there is no information there yet about their service in Germany from 1760 to their disbandment in 1762. But my Royal Ecoccais will participate in many battles, once I ever finish painting the s, I mean "boys." Jim |

I would dig deeper at the Kronoskaf website for the regiment the period of 1758 to 1762 is lacking. Check the various campaigns in the west and on the right hand side you will note the order of battle for each French Commander. Being one battalion strong, such units are generally not found on the first line, but are positioned to defend second and third line areas. That does not mean they did not see action as the Allies frequently main probing actions behind French lines (kleine krieg). Cheers, Robert |

Yes I looked at Kronoskaf. I will have a look at the Nafziger OOBS. I am planning to have a battalion of Ecossais Royal as part of my recently started Jacobite Rebellion set up (so far the British Army at Prestonpans and Jacobite Senior command completed, and MacDonald Brigade started). I am planning to go on to cover all the units for the Invasion of England (including those not actually involved in battles but who could have been on "what ifs") Clifton, Falkirk, minor actions (Invurie, Blair Castle etc), and Culloden. I have plans that once the Jacobite Rebellion set-up is finished, I will expand into WAS and SYW/FIW. My Jacobite Rebellion Ecossais Royal will be in their modified uniform, short coats and blue bonnets. However I was thinking of also making a battalion in the full uniform, which I could use for WAS/SYW and also for a Jacobite Rebellion "what if" scenario, assuming far more French reinforcements arrived (eg all of Fitzjames Horse, whole of Irish Brigade etc, and both 1st and 2nd Battalions Ecossais Royal).
