I am putting together a game for up at the club and it is Early's attack on the knoll defended by Barlow on day one at Gettysburg. IN my chosen set of rules Infantry move at 10 inches a turn and muskets long range is 30". In your estimation how far should i start the confederate attack from for the game. I don't want them shot to pieces before they get and i don't want them steamrolling the position. I am thinking 36"-48". What do you think? Artillery will be able to hit them straight away….i might give the attackers a free bound zero artillery barrage to prepare the way. Jason |

Start just outside musket range. |

Doesn't help you with range…but here's a good article on the Union deployment challenges at Bloucher's (aka Barlow's) Knoll and that might generate some "what if's" for your scenario. link |
