My first CY6 AAR game. Neither my self or Alex knew what we were doing and I didn't take many photos but we really enjoyed ourselves. Hope you get an idea of the game with this comic style BatRep.

Played for around 40 mins or less but this game could be played in a lot less of time if I hadn't forgot most of the rules :(

I've have very little experience playing these flight games. I've only played Wings of War before. For me I think I'll much prefer these rules but I did kind of miss the damage token portion of that game (probably not as realistic but I actually enjoyed it)

The rules themselves seem quite complex till you actually play the game and I'd imagine it becomes second nature after a few games under the belt

Really enjoyed the game despite the rule searching and chart checking. I'm not a fan of fire-charts but was a compromise for realism sake.

I really would prefer a chartless fire mechanic but I'm not sure if this is possible without losing all realism?

The Thunderbolts were absolute monsters! Poor Alex probably played better than me but was utterly destroyed by these seemingly invulnerable beasts! I've watched some documentaries that might give credibility to the results but I'd have to rely on the expertise of others to believe the reliability of the results.

Also surprised me that the P 47's had better agility than the 109's?

All in all really enjoyed the game. Would love to know what else is out there as a alternative

BTW I didn't use a Hex Mat but used Hex Templates to plot movement and give target arcs etc…worked great

Thanks for looking

I love the rules. My favorite set for air combat.

As you play more games understanding the movement and combat charts is very easy. The rules combine the feel for flying with most importantly, in my view, playablity.

I played in a W.W. I air game at Cold Wars. It was a very good sim of flying a W.W. I fighter. We had 3 Germans vs. 2 British. After 3 hours, there had been 3 bursts of fire from 5 planes, nobody really damaged.

But I want to play a air combat game, not really fly a plane. If I wanted to do that, I'd have become a pilot.

P-47s were monsters, very difficult to shoot down and dealt death with 8 .50 MGs. Me-109s had a very tough time with them, Fw-190s on the other hand were more than able to take them on.

Enjoy the rules, they have brought me many hours of enjoyment.

Fantastic, I'll be an ace in no time. Hopefully The Red was unable to get his canopy open ;)

Great stuff, Panda. Where were you playing?

Anyway, I look forward to more, thanks for posting. And you'd asked about hexes/squares being necessary; you're little templates should work out just fine.

Jack

LoL I know. I really do appreciate a game with certain aspirations to get things feeling right but I don't want to be bored to death either :D

3 planes, 3 hours and 3 bursts of fire…not for me either :)

Just Jack

Where were you playing?

Kitchen Table! Germany? Not sure what you meant there :)

I meant at home or at a club.

Jack

I was at home. Me at a club? I don't get let out in public anymore :)

This is a game I know I could get more to play. But I'd want a better handle on the rules first

There's a lot to love :)

Great AAR, thanks!

"CY6 AAR" – I thought – what postcode is that? Is this a battle report from Coventry :)

War Panda09 Apr 2015 2:28 p.m. PST

Thanks svsavory :)

John I've no connection to Coventry at all I'm afraid and only battles there are against relegation :)

A question to any regular CY6 players : the P 47 has an agility of 3 compared to the 109's 2. How is this interpreted? I would have thought its signified that the P 47 has a better turning radius? But the turning codes wouldn't of both craft don't display this.

(Leftee)10 Apr 2015 4:48 p.m. PST

At both altitude levels?
Was this against a 109G? (Fairly heavily armed beast).
I also view CY6 (particularly Jet Age) as being about energy conservation and use. The P47 was/is probably more efficient and maintaining power/speed to maneuverability ratios? Are they both rated as B's? Or is the Me109 an 'A'? (better at lower altitude/speed) -cannot remember. I think the 109 is a B. Perhaps roll, vertical roll, agility and stability at speed garners the P47 the edge? Not sure.
With CY6 it is all pretty moot if you put an Ace into a 109 and a skilled or green into the P47. Only way the P47 will win is by luck, lucky die rolls, or the 109's guns jamming. Two veteran 'anything' pilots acting as a team will be a force to be reckoned with in this game. The only frustration is flying a Veteran or Ace Oscar with a HMG and a LMG against any pilot in a P40 with 6 HMGs. Only takes one pass from the P40 whereas you have to keep plinking and hoping with the Oscar(or Nate).
Keep playing this game and you will find your pilot will be usually able to get the best out of whatever plane they are strapped into. Also learn, if you do a campaign, that you win by landing wheels down and horizontally. ie know when to run away.

Curse you, Blue Baron!
To all: Wait until Rodolf's younger brother, Lothar Von Robertstein, catches up to you lot in his Me 262 with his psycho sidekick Ivan "Wild Weasel" Neismann. Texas Jack will wet himself and killer Keepers will join the Blue Oyster Cult and he Will fear the Reaper once more!
Cheers and good gaming.

@brucka A campaign is where I'd really like this game

That's exactly what I was going to say…
No wait I forgot I'm wrong… but it would be if I was off my head on drugs! Rod please control that habit of yours ;) Everyone knows Keepers is already a member of the Blue Oysters Club

There is a club for cyanotic bivalves? What games do they play and how do they move the minis?
Cheers.
