Nice. What rule set are you basing them for? 7 x 4 is unusual I think. |

Teppsta, while I havnt bought any rules (and as per the title, new to Napoleonics)I asked a bit on the Warlord forum (Black Powder) and a few people said the plan of 7x 4 would be ok? Please let me know if not as I can easilly alter things at this stage ;] I havnt bought the rulebook yet as I wanted to focus on painting and then read the rules afterwards. |
waaslandwarrior | 10 Apr 2015 3:18 a.m. PST |
Vayasen, our standard Black Powder units are 24 figs each. But you can decide for yourself haw large you want a standard unit. Some use up to 36 figs for it. If you buy the rules, you could buy one of the Napoleonic supplements also, with background, history, armylists and scenario's. Have fun! |
Vayasen | 10 Apr 2015 3:20 a.m. PST |
Waas, so can I manage ok if I stay with my 28 figures or……? I have strangely already bought Albion Triumphant Vol2, thinking it would be a nice help for painting (nice book but not great for painting references). |
Marc at work | 10 Apr 2015 7:28 a.m. PST |
A lot of gamers appear to go for 6 companies (bases) of 6 figures a piece, 3 by 2 ranked up. On ecompany of grenadiers, one of voltigeurs and 4 of fusileers (centre company). I use the old Lilian and Fred uniform books – modern research has moved things on a bit, but not too much for most of the units they show. Nice looking units by the way |
Markconz | 10 Apr 2015 1:41 p.m. PST |
Wonderful painting. Yes 24 or 36 seems more common. 6 companies of 4, or 6 companies of 6. The Perry boxes are designed for 6 companies of 6, but you can buy extra command sprues easily enough. |
Vayasen | 10 Apr 2015 2:06 p.m. PST |
Ok im listening to all this (thanks btw, im new to all this). What I dont understand, if you have 6 companies of 4(or 6), where does the command stand fit in? Does it replace a fusilier company, so you only have 3 fuslier companies? Is everyone basically saying im better of changing now before I finish painting and basing etc ;]
|
Vayasen | 10 Apr 2015 3:43 p.m. PST |
Or does one of the 4 companies in the middle just happen to look like a command stand but effectively its just a company? So (4 or 6 men per company) GRenadiers Fus. Fus (command) Fus. Fus. Volt ? |

The size and makeup of a French battalion changed over the course of the wars but a typical tabletop battalion might look like : 1 stand of 6 grenadiers 1 stand of 6 voltiguers 4 stands of 6 fusiliers – one of which would be the 'command' base That said I like the look of bigger units (at 20:1) others would argue the benefits of 30:1 ie bases of 4 figures. You might find this interesting reading link Good luck with it! |

Nice job, compliments, I agree with Marckconz 24 or 36 minis are a standard in several rules like General de brigade for exemple. In other rules, like Shako II, is not important the number of miniatures for a stand, but the stands number. |
Marc the plastics fan | 12 Apr 2015 2:13 a.m. PST |
Yep, most gamers swap out one fusileer company for a command stand. It is not "right" but is one of those and wargame compromises we put up with. At 1:20 scale it looks "right". Not so sure for smaller units, as we like our full command stand of mounted officer, foot officer, drummer, standard and sapper. But go with what you like the look of – most gamers will play with whatever is put in front of them. For eg, the game I was in last night the French units had no officers etc (nor elite) but we all had a cracking game. So it makes no difference on the table |

Added a few more British to the first Battalion. Got a process down now so they are coming along quickly. Very happy with these, I have swapped tyle of painting from 'painting then using ink' to 'layering' which is something im sure plenty of you have done lots, but is new to me and IMO well worth it. Actually looking forward to trying it on some WW2 figures too. [URL=http://s923.photobucket.com/user/vayasen/media/IMAG1886_zpswujhbhxk.jpg.html]

My first British Battalion is now completed (well will base them tomorrow) and I am very very happy with them, on a personal level they are the best painting ive done. Question, playing Black Powder, if my British Battalion is 24 figures on 6 bases of 4 men each, how should I base the following- British 95th rifles Companies – 2 bases of 2men for each company? KGL Light Battalion (small battalion I think?) I am tying to make Kempts Divisiuon behind La Haye saint.
I will post some pics of my British Battalion tomorrow. |

Now completely finished my first British Foot Battalion (32nd). Very very happy with them. Now onto a smaller unit of 95th just for looks, then 1 more Battalion of British before moving back to a 2nd Brigade of French. Ogryn flesh………I see it in your pictures above. Nothing beats it, so what do they replace it with….Nothing logically. My bottle is getting dangerously low. Your British and the black outlining takes some beating. Also the white banners for the French, I have them from GMB but forget what they are for. Are they second bttn? If so, cannot ever remember seeing them used here. Everyone gets an eagle and tricolour……. and LHS in red brick with patchy whitewash…controversial, but works for me! Slate throughtout the complex less sure. Great work, clever mix of maunfacturers |

Some more stuff done. Another British Battalion, 28th Foot (note the old style headgear they till wore) Also a few test models from the 79th Highlanders(any opinions welcome) which I will now get cracking on, that will complete Kempts division. From there its back to another brigade of French, then british artillery, the some cavalry for both sides.
