"Just a short time ago, Russia planned to have 52 advanced T-50 stealth fighters by the end of the decade. At least, that was the plan. Now the T-50 program appears to be in serious trouble, and Russia may cut back the fighters to a fraction of the planned strength. The first sign something was very wrong appeared last month. On March 24. Yuri Borisov, Russia's deputy defense minister for armaments, told theKommersant newspaper that the military is drastically cutting its number of T-50s. Instead of 52 stealth fighters, Russia will build merely 12 of them. That's hardly anything…" Full article here link Amicalement Armand |

Hmmm, read just a few weeks ago that they'd have a bunch by this Fall. How disappointing. So, I guess this means that nice looking supersonic cargo carrier is probably going to be delayed as well. |

Glad to see that the US isn't the only country having serious issues developing their new fighter. |

Excuses aside, Russia is simply overextending itself. Too many sophisticated projects on a relatively small budget. |

We couldn't produce as many F-22s as we wanted to. Since Russia's GDP and defense budget is a fraction of ours, it comes as no surprise. But 12? Why bother? |

Face saving. Russia depends very heavily on military arms sales. If they admit that their stealth plane is a failure… Folks, I've been posting since last year that the Russian T-50 project is in trouble, not just because of cost overruns, but because of serious technical problems. The reason why India has walked from this project is because they discovered that the T-50 has failed several milestones. It is underpowered, it doesnt maneuver and it isnt stealthy. Which is also the reason why India has been quietly reaching out to their American counterparts to see if they can join the F-35 project. |

Why would anyone want to join the F-35 project. |

Because as messed up as the F35 is proving, it's still better than the PAK-FA! |

Yea, they've gotta keep their production line, and research people employed, even if the make them very slowly. Don't want to lose the ability to make more in the future, and there are always foreign sales to the Chinese, and others. |
