All,

Happy (Belated) Easter! If Easter is not your thing, please mentally erase the first few words of this post. I do bring the holiday up because it meant that not much got taken care of this weekend with regards to wargaming. To my chagrin, I did not play a single game; I suppose I shouldn't have slept ;) Aside from celebrating Easter all day Sunday with family and friends, Saturday morning the older of my boys had a baseball game (he was player of the game!), and some of you may know that my wife is Buddhist, and their New Year just started, so after baseball the rest of the day was spent at the temple for Songkhran festival. So, no games, but I did manage to get some troops prepped.

Let's take a look. I spent the bulk of my limited wargame time re-basing my 10mm Napoleonics for yet another project in service of the Commissar. This really hurt, because these are the only troops I've ever bought that someone else painted for me, and they came based 12 infantry and 6 cavalry to a stand. I then pulled them off those and based them differently. Then I did it again. And now I went a put them back on 12 infantry to a stand, though only 3 cavalry to a stand. So, it was a lot of work to return to their roots…

The whole shebang, with French, Bavarians, Poles, Italians, and Saxons on top, Brits, Dutch, Prussians, Austrians, and Russians on bottom. Total, there's about 40 infantry stands, 50 skirmish bases, 30 cavalry stands, 15 artillery stands, and various command stands.

Here's what they look like up close. Infantry have twelve figures per base, cav 3, and arty has two guns and two men (Foot) or 1 horseman (Horse).

If you'd like to see a bunch more photos, please check the blog at:

I also got a bunch of 6mm and 10mm stuff cleaned up and put on sticks, ready to prime, but haven't primed as the weather is not cooperating.

In any case, sorry, no games, but they're coming, so stay tuned.

V/R,
Jack

I always thought 10mm was small and after painting 54mm for the last month I am terrified of even going back to 28s. They look pretty cool. Re-basing is one of those jobs I hate doing but seem to manage every decade or so.

What manufacturer of 10mm do you have there?

Sharanac06 Apr 2015 11:52 p.m. PST

Nice work Just Jack.

@Brian Smaller: 54mm? These were my first, in High school days :)
Then I was introduced to 28, but found them still to big. 1/72 was the scale I stayed in the longest, but still I could not finish all the projects I wanted.

So, when I learned about 6mm figures, I was happy as a baby.

Now, I use 10mm for fantasy skirmishes, 6mm for everything else (Napoleonic and SF skirmishes included – my models are individually based) and every project I started (with the exception of current one of course) is finished.

This is the reason I go around and preach small scales to everybody.

Just Jack will probably second my opinion.

Beautifully done Jack! Love the repaints! When I was back in Ireland I came across the thousands of 15mm Minifigs Nappys I bought years ago and I didn't have the heart to bring them. I would love to get into this genre but only if I instantly had at least two huge armies!

Looking forward to seeing them in action

Brian – 10mm isn't small, it's perfect ;) And rebasing sucks, but I can't afford more stuff!

DF – Hey, good to see you man, hope all is well. These are actually Risk pieces, though some are modified with different headgear (bearskins, czapskas, etc…). When I first wanted to get into Napoleonics I didn't know anything about it other than the fact I wanted to get into Napoleonics. So I found this gentleman on the internet: zianet.com/SIGNIFER/lpa.html
And so I dished out some cash and 'presto' I was 'into' Napoleonics.

Sharanac – Amen to that! 10mm and 6mm means I've got so many forces they couldn't all possibly ever see the table ;)

Panda – You know, me and everyone's favorite communist are discussing some stuff where you don't need a mountain of troops to get into a game. And how extravagant of you, Sir, to be able to casually have toys staged on different continents ;)

V/R,
Jack

Bought them years and years ago with the best of intentions…maybe when I retire I'll start painting them but probably not. Played a game of CY6 tonight might cost some kind of report if I can muster the energy

Please muster the energy and post, I'd love to have a look.

Regarding the Napoleons, you know the Commissar's line about only needing 12-15 units, $50 USD, and limited painting time to get in the fight.

V/R,
Jack
