I recall reading that many Confederate cavalry officers in the American Civil War drew inspiration for their flamboyant uniforms from those worn by Hungarian officers during the Hungarian Uprising in 1848. The connections appears confirmed here. Nice figures and nice presentation! |

Krisztian -- how very interesting! Thank you for the link. My ancestors emigrated to the U.S.A. from Hungary, but after the American Civil War. I shall plan to pay my respects at General Sandor's grave when next I visit Arlington National Cemetery. |
