Last weekend was the annual convention of the Seven Years War Association, a gathering of eighteenth-century enthusiasts featuring traders, re-enactors, fine food and drink, excellent company and conversation, as well as games, games and more games. I've posted a collection of photos on my Flickr page, with descriptive captions. I think I got all of the attributions correct (though my notes were somewhat muddled by the end of the day – I'm guessing the generous quantities of fine adult beverages had nothing to do with it – that's my story anyway and I'm stickin' to it) but I'm sure someone will correct me if they detect an error. Fans of eighteenth century wargaming will probably notice the high proportion of games being run by the authors of the rules . . . and a very knowledgeable bunch they are . . . such lights of the hobby as Dean West, Todd Fisher, Dale Wood, Ken Bunger, Tod Kershner and others. You will probably also notice the very high standards of presentation; some very impressive terrain work and figure painting were on display.
All in all, my favorite weekend of the year, and well worth the 8 hour drive to get there. Enjoy, (and, for those who could have made it and didn't . . . eat your hearts out) link Jeff |

I was walking by the registration table and I overheard that the 100th gamer had signed in. I don't know how many signed in after that, but there were at least 100 people there. It was my first visit back in about 30 years. Good games, good people, good venue and a nice hotel room. I dropped $500 USD with the dealers. My complaint is how they organize the time slots. The morning game slot is 9 AM to 3 PM. That doesn't mean your game starts at 9:00. It may start at 11:00. It may start at 2:00. Whoever runs this con needs to pin GMs down on start times. I could have easily played a game in the amount of time I spent waiting for another game to start. To me, the half day window is completely unacceptable. |

Great photos thanks for sharing! Did anyone by chance record Dr Duffy's talk? |

Not to my knowledge. It would have been worth preserving in some way, though . . . full of concrete suggestions and guidelines for gaming The '45, from the person who is arguably the world's leading expert on the subject. You just had to be there, I guess. |
