I think the Bavarians had some sort of machine gun -just not very many of them.

That's a really nice piece of work. My copy of Captain Owen's Machine Guns and Mitrailleuses mentions that the versatile Werder (he of the magnificent SSBL carried by a few battalions of Bavarians in 1870) had invented a revolver cannon, now this isn't a revolver cannon any more than a mitrailleuse is however could Owen be wrong. I'd be really interested in the sources.
