Hello, here is my latest blog post about converting the original Ork characters from the Rogue Trader rulebook using current Ork and Marine parts. Basically my nostalgia seems to work only for the setting and the characters, not the original models. SO I made my own.

Hope you enjoy.

Here are some pics of my attempts:

The Battle at the Farm to follow…

Thanks for looking!

Neat!

Success. :)

Very nice conversions and very true to the originals.

Which brings back find memories of RT back in 1988.

One friend, as we played both The Battle at the Farm and the Wolf Time campaign (from Book of the Astronomicon), had the dubious distinction of getting the chapter commanders of both the Crimson Fists and Space Wolves killed in battle. :)

I loved Rogue Trader and hate what the game has morphed into over the years. I am currently in the process of collecting old Rogue Trader era minis and Epic 40k. Ironic I can now afford them but cannot assemble the old gaming group anymore.

Thanks guys!I played the Rogue Trader and and Rynn's World scenarios but never ran through the Book of the Astronomicon scenarios. That's a pretty rough run of bad luck to lose two chapter masters!

I want to run a last stand style scenario with my Ork Deff Dred to reenact the famous beakie box cover with the Crimson Fists. Loved that painting and it's what drew me into wargaming.

It's funny how it seems collecting the old stuff is as expensive as buying the new stuff! My friend and earliest gaming buddy is also buying up and trading for lots of the old RT era models. He's also trying to coax me back into epic which I'm having a hard time resisting.

Either way, getting back into 40k models using different rules has been just the thing I've needed to revitalize the hobby for me after so many years of nothing but historicals.

If you want to run the last stand scenario you might want to pick up the 25th anniversary Rogue Trader 40K Crimson Fist miniature if you don't already have it. Its the marine with the ork's head held aloft in his powerfist. It also comes with a standard planted in the ground.

There was also a poster of the Crimson Fists last stand.

I have Epic for my big battles. I have Rogue Trader for my story driven scenarios. I have many fond memories of Rogue Trader. A game could be played with a handful of miniatures and concluded in a reasonable amount of time. I always felt more creative with Rogue Trader designing my own scenarios. 40K has lost its creativity and is now just tables packed full of miniatures slugging it out like they are at the O.K. Same here. I've gone in many different directions since, minis-wise, but that cover is what got me into this hobby.

Nice!

On a side note and off topic for those that are interested. The Bell of Lost Souls rumor section stated GW has a Genestealer Cult army in the pipeline. Another good one from the Rogue Trader era.

Pizzagrenadier05 Apr 2015 5:15 a.m. PST

Dragon: I heard about that! Really excited to see that come out. Especially if they release a cult limo :)

I'm really liking the Admech army that just came out too. Looks like Jes Goodwin's early sketches are still a gold mine for GW.

Pizzagrenadier05 Apr 2015 7:46 a.m. PST

I totally forgot about that 25th anniversary Crimson Fist model. I might have to pick that up some time. I really think GW missed an opportunity to release a new set of beakies like the original RTB01 box but with new models. But that's just me…
