A fine report and pics, certainly going to give TtS a try when the printed version is available. |

Thanks chaps! Hi Captain Cook, I am pleased to report that the printed version is with the printers and will be released at Salute (and by post shortly afterwards). I'll put up more detail next week. |

A nice looking battle and good descriptive report. I am curious as to how the veteran pike manoeuvred in front of the right most pike phalanx under the gaze of the Romans without being charged. |
BigRedBat | 03 Apr 2015 4:08 p.m. PST |
Looks to me like the first phalanx retired, and the second moved diagonally into the space. These would both be difficult moves, in the context of the rules, with around a 50% chance of success. Presumably both activations succeeded; if either had failed the Romans would have charged (and likely broken) the phalanx that retreated. |
Temporary like Achilles | 03 Apr 2015 5:10 p.m. PST |
The veteran phalanx got in there by virtue of a a diagonal attack which broke the hastati (or perhaps principes, I forget which) and then allowed an advance after combat. We may actually have been doing difficult moves wrong – we were only asking 1 pip more than for a standard move. I must check that again. |

And here's Luke's take on the action as well. link |

Hi Aaron, that makes sense! Luke explains what happened very well. Yes you had it right about the difficult activations, that'll teach me to post very late in the evening. :-) Best, Simon |

Yes, I can see how that works now. A difficult manoeuvre to pull off. |

I was just wondering the best way to handle the grid system. It's an unusual set up, and of course nobody in the club has a gridded playing surface…. Any ideas, chaps? I'd like to get a set of the rules and try them out….. |
BigRedBat | 22 May 2015 2:24 p.m. PST |
Hi 1815 Guy, There are quite a few ways to tackle it. I tend to mark my boards and cloths with a tiny black dot at the grid intersections; this is quite adequate. For a temporary solution, I have seen people stick a small Silflor tuft onto a cloth or table at the intersections. In the recent game at the Wargames Holiday Centre, we used tiny balls of blu tack, positioned by eye on the tables. It took under 10 minutes to mark a table up. Hope one of these will suit- drop me a lien if you have any questions. Best, Simon |
