On a scale of 1 (awful) to 10 (perfection), how would you rate Men of Company B, the Vietnam War set from Peter Pig?

Colonel Bogey02 Apr 2015 5:48 a.m. PST

I really like them, so would give them an 8. I feel that the photos of the unpainted castings on the PP website don't really do them justice, and they're much better when painted.
They take wash (and next time I'll try magic dip) very well.
Pretty good range, but I'd like US mortars and both US and VC heavy machine guns too, ideally…

Nice, but do show age a bit compared to newer PP figures. Would like to see US with M14 if possible.

He's talking about the rules, guys, not the figures (although I agree with you on those).

I would give the rules an 8 on content and about a 3 on presentation…

I would give the rules a solid 7 rating. The presentation is not top quality but this is reflected in the price. They do tackle the 'cloak and dagger' feel of the war for the lower level of command in an interesting way. I have only played a couple of games and the American player is certainly kept on his toes. I think more games need to be played before I would feel confident I was doing things correctly. I think there is a depth to the rules that takes time to master and I would enjoy playing against an opponent who was more familiar with the mechanics.

Maybe a 5. They just did not work for us and we love PP game systems. We went with Two Fat Lardies "Charlie Don't Surf". They work slick as all the rest of the Lard rules sets.

Great set of rules (and figures)….I'd give them 8- 9.

I'm a big fan ! at least 8/10 ! Better if you all know the rules and can 'play' them.
It has a few clever abstractions that allow it to progress relatively quickly (who wants to relive the "frustration" of searching empty sectors?"), but "fights" well when it needs to. Relatively comprehensive for such a simple ruleset. (AFVs, Air Support, Boats etc. ..it's all there!)
Excellent entry-level Vietnam Game ! (and would be easily playable with your TOD/FOW -based figures)

Considering it's vintage … way ahead of its time !

A big fan too (no suprise!). I played with my mate Barry the other night. I was the VC and despite using Fat Wallys excellent tips and tactics article I failed kill a single US Marine. I need to be more sneaky!
