Hello,
I will get this out in the open, I am a fan of Bolt Action for the ease of playability.

Has anyone done a Modern game using Bolt Action Rules? Specifically, I am looking at late 1990's Chechen. If you have, how did you modify the rules for the T-80/90 tanks and etc?

Sincerely,
Steve R.

I wouldn't really modify the rules at all – just swap models. So a T80 is a PzIV, an RPG is maybe a Panzerschreck that kind of thing. Tweak any stats you need to go and go play.

The rules are so generic as it is they don't rally need modifying do they?

About the only thing that might need some creative re-engineering is reaction fire to ATGW's, especially the older and slower ones from the late sixties and seventies. Helicopters might be a challenge too and radar and sensors might complicate spotting issues. How many attack dice would an M-19 grenade launcher or Planya have? Could a Bradley launch a TOW, fire it's 25mm gun, fire its co-axial MG and move at half-speed all in one turn?

Ditto to extra crispy. But switch the names and maybe use the rules that exist for assault rifles and so on. ATGMs might be interesting, but some rule tweaking should work. You might also want to look at the sci-fi game they built for Bolt Action. It might have rules for ATGMs.

I would think you'd be inside the minimum range of most ATGM's, so you could probably ignore them with a clear conscious. Helicopters could be a form of off board support (so could Predator drones.)

^^ I was thinking the same thing.

Don't rifles has a 24" max range? If so than most missiles should have a 24" minimum range or less. A lot but not impossible.

I played a couple of games set in Angola, straight out of the book. Seemed to go well. Had a couple of Ratels, T55s, BTR60s and a Olifant. I can't remember quire how I classified stuff, but I think the T55 was roughly a Sherman and everything else fitted around it.

Definitely not, the TOW is a move-or-fire weapon with a slow flight speed of ~280m/s. We're talking 20 sec to 4000m. Same for all the ATGMs, really. Move or fire.

I'd grant firing the 25mm and coax while moving at half speed, though. Maybe even while moving at full speed, let's hear it for belt-fed automatics!
