Saturday night Rick and I put on the Battle of Plancenoit in 28mm, using Shako 2 rules.
Rick painted most of the French and I painted almost all the Prussians.

This Scenario is from Chris Leach's Fields of Glory Scenario book. The French have 2 fewer Young Guard Battalions and the Prussians 2 extra Landwehr battalions.
Both side had fewer cavalry regiments than history.

The Prussians start attacking Plancenoit with Hiller and Ryssel; the French left flank flank with Losthin and Hake.
The scenario calls for Losthin and Hake to circumvent or move through a large woods, slowing both divisions down.

Hiller assaulted Plancenoit never actually capturing the town. Hiller was destroyed in the process.

Losthin moved around the woods and attacked Simmers division on the ridge to Plancenoit's left flank.

Both cavalry divisions clashed with the Prussians taking losses in the first round, then eventually destroying the French.

I started taking pictures well into the game, as I was helping to umpire it and forgot early on.

Here Hiller is attaking Plancenoit, Ryssel next to Hiller, Hake just left of the woods, Losthin on the other side and cavalry clashing it out at the far end.

The Prussians lost the first round of cavalry battles loosing one Hussar unit and another taking kills, falling back. The French were elated.
The second line of Prussians included 2 landwehr cavalry regiments, both rated as 3's for melee, the French are 4's being light cavalry.

In this clash the Prussian Landwehr won both of their rolls, the Black Hussars in the middle losing.
In Shako 2 if you lose a melee you roll a moral check, if you roll higher than your melee value you are broken and removed from the game. The French commander rolled both his losing units to be broken. With only one regiment left out of three in the division he had to roll divisional moral, he failed that and the last regiment was removed as well. A loud groan came from the French side.

Here the Landwehr cavalry battle with the French lights.

Hiller assaults the town and church. Young Guard moves to the French Center behind the town. They subsequently, turned to the right and stopped Losthins Landwehr from flanking the town.

This game is 12 turns long with victory conditions being:
If the Prussians get 2 divisions off the French side of the table by turn 12 they win a limited victory.
If they also take all 4 sections of Plancenoit they get a glorious victory.

The Prussians managed to get limited victory with Losthin and Prince Williams cavalry exiting the board on the last turn. It was a close game for both sides.

wrgmr1: Looks like another fine example of wargaming in the grand manner. I love it! John Miller

Thanks for your kind comments gents.
Our next big game is Ligny at Enfilade on Friday, then Waterloo on Saturday, for which I painted all these figs.
