I found references to a brigade of tanks being brought across the river into Stalingrad in early Oct 42. Does anyone have a naval oob that would explain how this was done? There were KV heavy tanks in the brigade, so I don't think you can do that on the small barges portrayed in the movies. |

There're several works on the subject, all in Russian. link "Volga Fleet in Great Patriotic War" link Fleet veteran memoir article: link Not sure what Google translate will leave from the text, but it is betetr than nothing… In short, it was created in 1941, based on training ships, civilian trawlers and cargo ships, as well 7 gun boats, 14 armored boats, 33 mine sweepers, 2 AA floating AA batteries and other stuff – including 2 batallions of marines. Initially it was based in Stalingrad, later relocated to Ulianovsk. Tanks were most likely moved on mobilized cargo ships of the fleet…
