I have always wanted to build a German Recon platoon for North Africa and was trying to work out what the best kind of scenario would be. Any ideas?

Perhaps Frederick lands in Alexandria and tries to get it and Cairo under Imperial control before ten thousand Mamluks wipe out his vanguard?

How about trying to find a way through the salt marshes South of El Alamein so Rommel can out flank the 8th Army? I always wondered if the Germans ever came up with hover tanks if that might have worked?

There was some lively fighting between von Wechmar's recon battalion and elements of the 7th Australian around and east of Benghazi during Rommel's first advance from abu Agheila.

The terrain in the area varied between flat, scrubby, rocky and escarpment. So there is plenty of room for variation.

how about these 2 for skirmish battles;

sending out a squad of MC troops with an AC for support to see if a well marked on the CO's map is still there and has enough water to support his Regiment.

Send a recon force into a small village ahead to determine if it is "friendly" or occupied by an enemy force. If occupied, try to determine the enemy composition without losing too many of your recon force.

Refer to von Mellenthin's book, "Panzer Battles". IIRC, relates some of his experiences leading a reconnaissance element in the North Africa campaign and skirmishing with his British counterparts.

IIRC Hans Von Luck commanded a Recce unit in the DAK. I think his book has some stuff that would make good scenarios
