I have posted an article to my Blog comparing the Old Glory Armada range in 1/300 and the new Zvezda range in 1/350. link Has anyone tried using both ranges together despite the scale difference? |

Have you tried the Zvezda game? is it any good/fun? |

Not yet. I'm waiting for San Martin to fight with Revenge! |

I have about 14 of the Old Glory galleons, and at least one example of any other kit that can fit in with the Old Glory stuff. Here are some pics on an old page of mine: link I have one of each of the Zvezda ships and they do not fit well. I am squinting and using the Spanish ship as a smaller galleon, but I have not built the Race-built yet. I will not buy more of the Zvezda stuff. Also, I have a copy of Airfix's new Mary Rose. Nice little kit, but also too small for the Old Glory stuff. Somewhere I had an old page that talked about all the different kits that one might use with the Old Glory ships but I cannot find it. VSB

BTW, here is what a floor full of 1/300's looks like:

I have thought about buying some of the Old Glory ships. What rules do you use when you game with your 1/300 scale ships? Do you enjoying gaming at this scale? Kevin |

I have never gotten into naval gaming, though I like the IDEA of naval gaming. These look pretty cool, though you should take the plunge and paint your floors blue with wave effects. Not sure how your spouse might view that, however. |

Actually that was an opportunistic set of shots after I aged a decade taking up the tile that covered that floor. New tile went down shortly after the pics. |

Old Glory offers a set of rules for this period call, "Birth of the Broadsides". These rules are designed to play a game on a table top and not the floor – I have never really liked the idea of walking around while the models are on the floor – I have seen too many OPS! Also, with our Napoleonic ships, we have used rules designed for 1/600 scale ships, using the movement and fire distances for that scale. Visual it was a great game. When I read actual naval combat stories from this period and the Napoleonic period, I find that much of the combat was in close quarters. During the Armada period, many of the Spanish ships used land cannons on the ships, which meant loading the heavy guns was a very hard task. Thus, the Spanish just didn't fire these guns unless they were very sure they were going to hit their target. I believe that if you were to fight the Armada as a game in the same way that the battle was fraught, you would have a very boring game. |

We do have starter sets in this period that include ships and rules. SS6 and SS7 |

These look pretty cool, though you should take the plunge and paint your floors blue with wave effects. No need. The ocean wasn't blue until the later 1600s:
