Here is a question for all you navy buffs. I love the look of carriers an would love to have them in miniature games, but here is the problem most naval battles using carriers. The fleets would of never seen each other. My group games with Seekrieg 5 rules, now its a great set of rules an has a very detailed rules for carrier operations, but when you get down to ship vs ship battles carriers never see the gaming board. Any thoughts or suggestions or rules sets that you all use that could at least get these beautiful looking GHQ carriers on the board? I have GQ3 rules also but haven't got to use them yet. fullmetaljacket |

I Play Gq3. Carriers are used in campaigns or mini campaigns ( use boardgames and the ones from gq site+ pedestal from ghq) Carrier Tf if attacked is in the center of the table with the planes coming in with rules to chose angles of approach( pre game choices with a bit of errors, given margins of autonomy ) . 1/1200 planes. Use Gq air rules. |

Right, you really need an operational scenario to make carriers work. One thing I've always wanted to do was run a mini-campaign using Avalanche Press's Second World War at Sea series to drive it; then play out the resulting tactical battles using miniatures. But if you didn't want to go through all trouble, the best way to do it would be to game two carrier groups exchanging strikes. Play one game and then the other and compare the results to determine the winner. -Will |

You can get the carriers into the battle if you game Leyte Gulf or the sinking of HMS Glorious. |

A friend and myself ran Midway in a day at a local game store years ago using General Quarters 1. Most of the game was on maps, but the battles were set out on the table, carriers being attacked by aircraft quite often. Baring that just set up a carrier task force and attack it with aircraft from another carrier or land based air. One side will have to use planes instead of ships. It's actually quite entertaining. |
