I just finished editing the book project but lack the funds for proper uniform and flag art work. I will try to make it available soon upon request.

Sorry but this is the first time that hear of this book. My interest in the War of 1812 makes me curious as to your books content.

I am particularly interested in the uniforms and flag art work. Do you have a synopsis of the book?

Rudy, Are you talking about William Walker and such, or earlier?

vtsaogames25 Mar 2015 2:43 p.m. PST

Do keep us posted. Did you ever publish a book about the Creek War?

Buckeye AKA Darryl25 Mar 2015 6:34 p.m. PST

Rudy – possibly do a crowdfunding drive to raise the funds for flags and artwork? I would support that. Otherwise, I hope to see what you do have soon!

Sounds like a very interesting book. Keep us appraised of its availability.

Mad Guru25 Mar 2015 8:25 p.m. PST

I'd buy that for a dollar -- or for whatever price you fixed on. (I'm assuming it is indeed about William Walker and his contemporaries in various Latin American locales.)

I presume the book will also cover the American filibusters, the Hunter Patriots, who invaded Canada in 1837 and were defeated at the Battle of the Windmill?

Rudysnelson26 Mar 2015 6:16 a.m. PST

Both earlier adventures with Crabb and others. Events in Florida, Texas in the early years and ending with the Lopez and Walker operations at the end.

I second the crowdfunding idea.

Rudysnelson26 Mar 2015 6:18 a.m. PST

Glengary, I did not include the Hunter action due to lack of confirming sources. Maybe i should have.

Rudysnelson26 Mar 2015 6:25 a.m. PST

Finding a source to confirm other sources was a big delay with the book. i was surprised at how much info was available on uniforms and some flags.

There were several Filibusters that I found in my research which had almost no military actions upon which to base any scenarios for gaming. So I did not include them.
I have been working on scenarios for gaming but I am looking at board gaming which can be converted to miniatures if the players want. Traditional counter board games are easy to design and I have sevral in various stages of development without any intention of publishing due to the elusive dollar. LOL. One concept which has provided some interesting play test results are to use blocks like Command n' colors and Columbia games use. Those have peaked my interest. LOL

Wow! I like this! keep us posted, Rudy!

Glengarry5 – a hundred or so Patriot prisoners were transported to Tasmania. Some of them were compelled to participate in search and capture/kill operations against bushrangers – although at least one refused to fire during a skirmish (and consequently had his ticket-of-leave cancelled) because '… he had so much of the American spirit…'.

I was unaware of this episode until I came across the book in which the above incident is recounted in a local library a few years ago: 'American Citizens, British Slaves: Yankee Political Prisoners in an Australian Penal Colony 1839 – 1850', by Cassandra Pybus and Hamish Maxwell-Stewart.

The Battle of the Windmill is covered in excellent detail by Donald Graves…he of War of 1812 writing fame.
