We are getting into Blucher and are a little uncertain about the base sizes. Some people seem to use the full 3 1/2 inch playing card size bases? Whilst some are using 60 X 30mm bases. These are for 6mm figures. How have you guys based your 6mm figures? Andy |

Will be curious to see people's responses as my own group starting Blucher. |

The choice is really up to you and your gaming group. If playing space is at a premium, then go with a smaller base. If you plan on using the cards from the Hundred Days campaign or from future army packs, then go with a base size closer to the cards in size. In the end it's your choice. |

60*30 might be a litle shallow to mark the unit elan and any special characteristics, but otherwise, whatever works for you. If playing space isn't at a premium, I'd go a bit larger – you don't have to pack the troops in, after all. |

My group is looking at 3"x2" bases/sabots for 15mm. We normally play on a 4'x6' area. We have been using the cards, while the troops are assembling, and those have been working fine. One of my mates has stated, to several in our club, "what DBA did for ancients, Blucher has done for Napoleonics." I am running 3 games of Blucher at our club gathering in about three weeks and hope to post about the event then. |

The only one of us who actually has the rules and the 100 days add on so far, has suggested that you use the cards but put the miniatures in the area in the middle of the card, I think he is suggesting we effectively use cards and miniatures combined, hence his suggestion of the smaller base that only fits the centre of the 100 days cards. In the end I don't really mind, I will go with the crowd, as long as we all use the same size! Just wondered what everyone else was up to. Andy |

The people playing it at our club just put their existing bases of troops on the nit cards. My usual advice on wierd basing schemes applies, don't stick your figures to huge bases which you can't use for anything else. You'll only end up rebasing them one day. |

At my Club we have settled on 80mm x 60mm bases, very close to the size of the cards. That accommodates those whose figures are based on 40x30mm bases, while those using 60x30 bases plan to combine two together in the centre of an 80x60 sabot. Some of us prefer to create specific brigade bases but not all. We will probably stick to a 3" BW for ease of measurement. John |

60mm x 30mm would work great if you put the card under and just make sure no one uses it to measure anything but I don't think that looks that good. I use 80mm with a card holder underneath which I am still undecided about. I am considering trying something with dial dude dials and some other marker for unit characteristics. |

All my 15mm are based 40x30 for Lasalle and FOGN so looks like 80x60 trays for me! 6mm are on 2"x2" squares so need to think about that one. |

We're using the 3" x 3" with 6mm figures but it is the whole mass look that we find so appealing. Not a cheap way to go at 100+/- infantry on a stand. |

We're using 15mm figures on card-sized bases. Lasalle armies fit 4 stands on a sabot base this size. For range and movement we're using 3" BW. |

we're using 6mm figs on 80mm x 60mm bases . that was the closest standard base size we could find to match the cards . the bases will sit on top of the cards once the unit has been revealed and losses will be marked on the card . |

I am thinking about using two 60 x 30mm bases and then two 30 x 30mm sabots on the side. The sabots would represent attached artillery, brigadiers, plus or minus strength, etc. total size (90mm x 60mm) is very close to the cards. I just need to buy or make some metal trays. Élan would have to taped to the back. I might consider making one sabot an ammo counter for artillery. I have spent far too much time thinking about basing! Originally, I was going to use 20mm squares and then sabot, so I can play other rule sets with these 6mm miniatures. Then I thought about using 60x40mm where 10mm of the back could be used for unit ID. |

Hello Andy! Your boys have it right. The 60x30 is used by a lot of 6mm players for almost every rule set out there as is, or with a few minor rule amendments. So that base works perfect for 6mm. Your next option is you can use two of them together back to front if you want to enhance the look and depth of a brigade. You can also change them to represent different brigades. Another option that some are considering is you can put them side by side to represent wider frontages for your brigades in different circumstances. A sort of optional rule. Also by using 60mm as your frontage (ignoring the wider option) I think your playing area will be greater as this is shorter then the frontage of the cards. Some are also making sabot bases to record the details on the cards while others have decided to use a roster sheet so the table looks a little cleaner. So lots of options, but clearly using the 60x30 base is a great start. Best regards, Glenn |

I ask this elsewhere as well, but is anyone playing with 3x3 V&B basing ? |
Dexter Ward | 11 May 2015 2:51 a.m. PST |
The games works fine with square bases, including 3x3. |

I prefer square basing, as it makes measuring a 45 degree arc as easy as drawing a line from corner to corner. Plus, it gives me more space to mount little toy men! |

I have just started collecting and basing a British Army for Blucher. Sally 4th do a full range of bases designed for Blucher that have the firing angle and central measuring point built into the base. If we don't do them in the size you want, we are always happen to make them in a custom size. Recently we have made a lot for customers in 60mm x 30mm size. They can be found at : wargamesbuildings.co.uk/Wargame-Figure-Bases/Blucher-Wargame-Bases |
