Hi all. I painted up some Reaper Highlanders for use in Battlesystem and posted them over at Dead Dick's Tavern. angrypiper.com/gaming/?p=770 Then I played my first game of Battlesystem Skirmish with them and wrote an After Action Report. angrypiper.com/gaming/?p=772 Drop by and check it out! Comments welcome, there or here! |

Check the Range on the Cause Wounds spell -- I thought it was "Touch"… Otherwise, a very good write-up on the battle. The Humans won, but at a terrible cost. Missiles are quite powerful in BS Skirmish, as well as BS. If one side has longer Range, that is a huge advantage, as the shorter ranged troops may not survive trying to close within effective Range. Play with it, and I think you will see what I mean. Check the morale triggers again. I suspect there should have been more morale checks? Nice looking table, very nice looking figures, combined with an entertaining report! Thank you for sharing! Looking forward to more… Cheers! |

You're right on the range, Sgt.! Funny thing was I was thinking the same thing when I was playing, since it's a Touch spell in AD&D. I must have been looking at a different spell! As far as morale goes, I don't think I missed anything, but of course since it's my first game I could be wrong. No unit was reduced to less than half its models in one round, and no one creature was reduced to less than half its hits in one round. The orcs lost a leader and checked, and then were forced to form a new unit, so they had a second check later. I actually thought I should have been checking morale more often, but LESS THAN HALF seemed to be the key words. Did I miss something? I appreciate the input and thanks for the praise. I'm certainly going to play again, so hopefully I won't make the same mistakes. |

I play both BS, and BS Skirmish. I may be mixing the two sets of rules in my head. In BS, the first figure loss in a unit triggers a morale check. It may not, in BS Skirmish. I need to go back and review the BS Skirmish rules myself. In BS games, morale is your worst enemy. It can change the game in a single die roll. It may not be as critical in BS Skirmish, but I know in my RPG sessions, a morale failure can result in monsters scattering, or even surrendering… I'd recommend photocopying the spell templates onto a transparency, or scan and print them on one. Transparencies work great, and if you have a scan of them, you can re-print as often as necessary. Cheers! |
