I finally completed the Gripping Beats set of Gladiators I've been working on. My first attempt at painting 28mm minis for six years. I'm certain that some of the weapons and shields are misplaced and I made a few changes. I added hair to the mini with the axe, (the Black on his lower eye is deliberate. Imp. Roman sunglasses), added a wrist chain to the African mini and painted some dents and holes to the shields, (I wanted them looking a little battered). The African fighter has a skull painted on his face. This was inspired by Baron Samedi in the film "Live and Let Die" (1973). A few images, with different angles and light sources.
Thank you for viewing. Stuart. :) |

More like Glastonbury in the 80s/90s |

Wonderful figures! I like the hoplomachus the best, but have always been a fan of the heavies. The skull paint is inspired. I will have Live and Let Die stuck in my head all afternoon. |

The Gripping beast models are quite a bit bigger than 28mm; they are advertised as 35mm. Nice figures, but not compatible with any other gladiator lines (Crusader, Foundry, Steve Barber) |

Thank you guys for your kind comments. Like riding a bike…you don't forget just because of time. Its coming back slowly, head scratching does help! More like Glastonbury in the 80s/90s I thought the fighter looked too oriental, hence the Mohawk! Stuart. :-) |

Brought back fond memories of getting caught up in the middle of a massive crusty punch up in thick mud and pouring rain -positively medieval… I think this is the vibe that informs a lot of what goes on at Gripping Beast -I could wrong of course |
