It's a new design- a Dirt Mat! As opposed to a latex caulk mat. I hope you guys enjoy. I think it'll look pretty cool when it's done. I'll post a follow up when I get it finished, hopefully tomorrow sometime.

Awesome!

Nice effect and nice to see new alternatives being explored, I have attempted the caulk type of mat and just found it too thick and stiff to work out properly on the material I was using.

As always brilliant. You have a concept what you are doing. I like that.

Although i am not in the realistic terrain camp.

I also use real earth on bases, hills etc. cheap and… Looks like earth.

Where in CA are you? That lunch looks mighty tasty! :D

Have any of you tried the Lemax mossy stuff for Christmas dioramas? I picked up some on clearance at Michael's early this year. Any good?

FM, beautiful and inspiring as always! I especially appreciate your comment re the desire to have the figure bases blend in with their terrain. You have well thought out ideas, and it's thoroughly enjoyable and motivating to see you put them into effect. I am continually grateful for your posts as they display your refreshing ability to toss aside convention and push the boundaries of common practice.

Keep it up!

Cheers,
Bob

Hey everyone, thanks for the compliments! Glad to hear that people are getting something out of my hobbying time here.

Ced1106- I'm in the Central Valley. Not the most fashionable, which is why it's so awesome. Super-high quality of life for half the price of SoCal and the Bay area, plus the Sierras are an hour away. Best kept secret in CA. You couldn't get me back to Hollywood for anything. I've never used that sort of mat but it looks like it could be used for something. I've definitely seen it out there though. Next time I'm up there I'll take another look at it!

Inkbiz- thanks! The only thing missing from my set-up are some Inkbiz 3mm!

I'm doing some more flocking and adding roads at the moment. Hopefully later on this week I'll have a finished product to show everyone. I'm debating how to do the roads. Right now I'm painting them on the same color as the dirt roads at Wagram on Google maps. Tomorrow I may take a walk and try to find some lighter colored dirt, something sandier or cement-ish, that will be more in keeping with the rest of my project. Just using the earth tone and leaving it bare doesn't quite work with the roads. The dirr roads at Wagram also seem to have some greenery on their edges, so I'm going to try to add that in as well.
