Given this is a wargames' site, it could be interesting to apply these findings to various rule sets, in order to see who gets it "right".

If the article is correct -and I believe Quesada's arguments are compelling- it would explain the emphasis of the Roman military mores on the heroic nature of combat. Also, it would explain the relative vulnerability of Roman Republican armies to Carthaginian and Numidian cavalry.

He has written a book on Iberian warfare which is due to be published later this year in English and is available to preorder via Amazon. Having read most of his papers that are available online in English I would agree that he is probably one of the leading authorities on this subject. I am eagerly awaiting my copy of his book and who knows if enough of us preorder, it's release date might be brought forward….!
