Curious if there's an association with age, certain types of gaming, and focus of that gaming.

Would you mind stating your age, what eras and genres you play, and what if any other types of gaming you do?

Demiurge, age 44 (dark hair with a noticeable bald spot, dang it!)
Minis: Revolutionary, Napoleonic, WWI, WWII, Modern, Fantasy, SciFi, Pulp, Space
Other: Wargaming, Eurogaming, board games, RPGs, Larps, computer gaming (all types, especially WWII and scifi, simulations, FPS, RTS, and 4X)

Thanks!

40, no hair left really. Historical mainly. 15mm Jacobite 45, FIW, AWI, 1812, ACW and LRDG North Africa, 28mm Gladiator and RCW, 1/300 Korea/Vietnam air, dabble in 1/285 and 28mm scifi. Those are my current periods, I have about a dozen others in various stages around the house that are in stasis. Historical board wargaming is my other area of gaming.

55 and still kicking. Still got a full head but it is mostly grey now. Mostly. My students called me "old" today because I knew what "Cheers" was. :-(

Byzantines, Fatimid Egyptians, Seljuqs, Bulgars, Crusaders, Mongols, in both 15mm and 28mm. In 15mm only ACW, Franco-Prussian, Austro-Prussian, Franco-Austrian, and just starting Napoleonic. Crazy. I know. Expensive being a solo gamer…

Titchmonster20 Mar 2015 9:42 p.m. PST

Fanrasy in 25mm.

Napoleonics (100 Days) in 25mm

capncarp20 Mar 2015 10:33 p.m. PST

My age? Well, I'm not older than dirt, but my college roommate, Ogg, got kicked out of school for discovering fire while messing around in Chemistry Lab. I hear he got a job with the military R&D crowd.
I started getting thin hair at 19, now bald on top, grey at temples and the sides of my beard (which I've had since college, to protect Society from what horrors lie beneath).
Minis: medieval (esp.Normans), Gladiators, Age of Sail, VSF, Pulp/Gangster Era, Sci-Fi (still looking for mini in an acceptable "as-described-in-the-Starship Troopers-book" set of powered armor), FIW, AWI, Old West, Pre-dreadnought, WW2 naval, WW2 coastal forces combat, Zombies/PostApocalyptic/Dystopian world.
Other: RPGs --Paranoia, Twilight2000, Traveller,

Graycat20 Mar 2015 10:34 p.m. PST

57. Graycat… actually more white, with odd bands of dark brown. Gaming dinosaur. My boss collects dinosaurs.

I still firmly believe in 25mm, though I'll accept 28s. Fantasy, and historical that look like fantasy (Samurai, Aztecs, Landsknechts), VSF. 1/2400 naval from 1900 to 1945, 1800 to 1900 naval in larger scales. I maintain a 1/1 scale diorama of a game company.

wrgmr120 Mar 2015 10:51 p.m. PST

56 – salt and pepper, but my beard seems to be going grey faster. Like capncarp I grew mine a LONG time ago so I wouldn't scare small children.

Minis: Napoleonic 15mm and 28mm (Nuts I know), WW2-20mm.
All in 28mm, Greek Hoplites, Burgundians, ACW, Boxer Rebellion, Zulu's and WW1.
1/72 WW1 aircraft, and 1/600 scale fast attack boats WW2.

McWong7320 Mar 2015 10:53 p.m. PST

41, still as interested in the genres I played at 13, but more 70/30 for historicals. Back then it was 70/30 fantasy and sf.

joekano20 Mar 2015 10:55 p.m. PST

42, no grey

Minis: Ancients, late medieval Europe, samurai, WWI Africa, BoB, VBCW, WW2, third world Cold War, superhero, Doctor Who, spaceships

Other: Fallout, Civilization

Knocking on the door of 60 in three more months! Been gaming since I was 9 when I bought my first Airfix figures, and got a copy of AH's Gettysburg for my birthday!

Have been graying since I was 20, and I blame my wife for that!

Started out collecting and playing boardgames, and after returning from my first deployment in the Navy discovered I really liked playing with miniatures! Have been doing that mostly ever since, though still delve into the occasional boardgame!

Favorite periods: ACW, AoS, AWI, 1812, WW II specifically Africa and Eastern Fronts! I have ACW and AWI in 10, 15/18, 25, and 40 mm, so what that says I don't even want to think about!! But I'm having fun, so what!!

Also, have a good sized library of which every book except the ones from this past Christmas has been read at least once! Most of them more often then twice!

I also religiously follow the Chicago Cubs as a hobby!!

nevinsrip20 Mar 2015 11:39 p.m. PST

Bill

63---- still got some brown hair mixed in with the gray. Tickled pink to actually have hair, to be honest.
MINIS: AWI, F&I War, ACW, Wild West, War of 1812 and LOTR (HUGE LOTR collection)
Don't game, just collect.

OTHER: Ice Hockey…. played until age 57, when my 6 th knee operation ended that. NY Islander season ticket holder since 1972. Sheesh, I even read the Canadian papers sports pages online. Hockey is an "all in" sport.

"We are Grey. We stand between the darkness and the light."

48, btw and too many periods / genres to list

Broglie21 Mar 2015 2:01 a.m. PST

I am reassured to see so many TMPers in their 60s.

I am not alone.

Grey/white haired old man

GarrisonMiniatures21 Mar 2015 2:35 a.m. PST

62, grey, Ancients, S&S, bursts of activity aroung Pre-Dreadnoughts and WW2, nowadays mostly interested in the collecting side, always been interested in the history side.

Jcfrog21 Mar 2015 2:40 a.m. PST

50++ bald;p. Outside

Inside 14?

JimDuncanUK21 Mar 2015 2:58 a.m. PST

65 in three weeks time and still have a fair head of hair, greying at the sides though!

Still playing 'Old School', dabbling in 'New School', painting anything from 6mm to 54mm.

Is that OK?

Porthos21 Mar 2015 3:12 a.m. PST

Growing older only means a growing distance between your fysical and your mental age. Fysical age now 68. As a convinced fanatical megalomaniac I collect (almost) everything (;-)).

MHoxie21 Mar 2015 3:52 a.m. PST

MHoxie: 45, more bald than grey.
Types of games: favor historicals, but will play almost anything that doesn't have the "heavy-metal-album-cover" vibe.

Edit: not losing hair; gaining face.

ordinarybass21 Mar 2015 4:01 a.m. PST

34 Greying fairly rapidly, full hair though!

Miniature gaming: Fantasy, post apoc and sci-fi gaming.
Other: Various board, card and euro games. Occasional dabbling in video games, but not much.

rustymusket21 Mar 2015 5:03 a.m. PST

64 with hair brown and gray, beard white. I have not gamed in years. I set up my ACW troops on my soldier table and am painting a few additions. Sold off everything else except my French and Indian War figs. Maybe I will paint them.

Tuudawgs21 Mar 2015 5:15 a.m. PST

60, what is left is grey/white

Ancients/Fantasy and the occassional pulp

No other interested gamers in the area so mostly I play with myself :-/

GildasFacit Sponsoring Member of TMP21 Mar 2015 5:21 a.m. PST

64 and grey/white with large bald spot too.

Wargaming since I was 14 and various interests, mostly historical. I could live without more unpainted lead but probably won't.

WW1 & VBCW at the moment but early Medieval, Italian wars, lots of Naval, loads of generic 2mm Ancient & Renaissance (and now Napoleonics too). HotT is the nearest I get to Fantasy but most of my armies are historical clones.

Most of our group are approaching 65, even the youngster is well past 50.

Rrobbyrobot21 Mar 2015 5:22 a.m. PST

55. What's left is grey.
I play a lot of WW2 games. Mostly using Bolt Action rules these days in both 28mm and 15mm. But I also like The Sword And The Flame so I play British Colonial games on occasion.
I also play games others run. The first two are games I run. The latter can be lots of stuff. But I'm almost exclusively a historical gamer.
Then there's that one to one scale stuff I used to do…

tmason21 Mar 2015 5:32 a.m. PST

48, going grey. Mainly sci fi (28mm skirmish and space ships) these days and the lighter board games. Still have many historical armies, but rarely pull them out.

HistoriFigs21 Mar 2015 5:34 a.m. PST

53, plenty of grey
Gaming, as has been is all over the board.
I have Napoleonic armies in 5 different figure sizes/scales.
Play 18th century games frequently.
Dabble with Colonial war games (see I am old, war game is two words not one). Mostly TSATF, but not always.
I still fiddle with Warhammer & 40K
Plenty of board games too – historical, science fiction & eurogames.
My figure scales run the full range – true 20mm (that is 20mm sole to crown) as always is my favorite scale/size.

Personal logo McKinstry Supporting Member of TMP Fezian21 Mar 2015 5:36 a.m. PST

There are days where I feel as if the Ark was built by those darn kids down the street.

The G Dog Fezian21 Mar 2015 5:44 a.m. PST

It's a race to the bottom to see which happens first – turning all gray, or going bald. But thenm I'll be 50 this year!

redbanner414521 Mar 2015 5:57 a.m. PST

63 and still a kid.
WWII land & air, ACW, Nappys, Ancients & Medievals in minis

Who asked this joker21 Mar 2015 6:08 a.m. PST

49. Black hair naturally so you know I'm turning gray!

Ed Mohrmann Supporting Member of TMP21 Mar 2015 6:16 a.m. PST
