Last night the Fencibles has a small game night, our first in a while. Rick commanded my Seven Years War Prussians and I his Austrians. We rolled dice to see which scenarios to play. All the rest of the AARs will be done in the pictures.
All rules used from Neil Thomas' One Hour Wargames, no house rules added. |

Great report. I like these rules but have only played solo. One of the things I like is that you only need a few figures for each force so can build Armies in different periods. I've Little Britons for my first outing. Check it out link |

Just out of interest – how long did each game last ? |

1st game almost an hour but we talked a bit aside from playing. 2nd game about 30 minutes. Last game was an hour but we played all 15 turns. |

My copy of the rules arrived today and I got a chance to try out a solo game of ACW. Played scenario 12 "Unfortunate Oversight", picked at random. Blue had a very tough go of it with 4 Infantry, 1 Zouaves, and a Cavalry. Up against 2 dominantly located Artillery, 3 Infantry and a Cavalry unit. As Dan says, you only need a small number of figures for an army no matter what you roll for unit allowance. With 9 periods, 30 scenarios, and a matrix of something like 30 possible army match-ups. You could play these rules for a very long time without repeating, unless you wanted too. I have already started looking into buying a couple generic Red and Blue armies for the periods I don't have stuff for. |

In any period, you need 10 units per side. Only 6 will show up in any game. For Horse and musket, 4 infantry, two artillery, 2 skirmisher and 2 cavalry. In WWII it would be 4 infantry, 2 mortars, 2 AT guns and 2 tanks. |

Enjoyable reports. One thing I like about the scenarios is the sparse terrain. This leaves room for either random additions that make the games more replayable or campaign map driven additions. |

Excellent reports – I think you capture the essence of what Neil Thomas seems to be about in 'One Hour Wargames' – fun and actually playing a game. |

@Thomas Mante – Agreed. There are too many blogs and posts showing off pretty figures, compared to one showing them actually being used in games. |
