…I would support such a board.
grin
Well… Today we have a proposal for a new board that has 11 "I would support…" votes. It is losing in the democratic sense with the "NO!" votes at 84%.
However, the threshold has been 40 positive votes gets you the vote.
In reality I think the proposed board will never get 40. But what would be "official TMP policy" if it also got 85% negative ?

You want logic around here? Gowan, yeh!

I believe we are only counting yes votes.

Not sure about whether hanging chads go for, or against a new board.

Well, thought exercise, in a case of new Boards, imagine 5 different topics, people are only ever interested in 1 topic, then at best no topic can be supported by more that 20%.

So the 'No' votes aren't really relevant, are they?

Here is what it says in the FAQ, the closest thing we have to 'offical TMP policy':

"A new board will be created if there is sufficient support (at least 50 votes to support)."

Nothing about no votes.

This is an instance where democracy should play no part. It's all about establishing the level of support and not the level of disinterest or dislike. If sufficient people are prepared to actively support a niche board then it shouldn't matter how many "No" votes there are. Give them their forum. All the naysayers can look elsewhere – as we are frequently told to do with regard to the UM board for example.

Of course if the niche support fails to materialise or be sustained (always a distinct possibility with very minority interests) then it will die a death anyway, and "your" enjoyment of "your" TMP will not have been affected in any way John.

I really don't get it.

How does anyone get their knickers in a bunch about another board being created?

Who cares? If you don't like it just don't visit that board.

And if you do, why would you?

Isn't hanging Chad considered cruel and inhuman punishment nowadays?

It's a reasonable question, IMO.

Just asking why a poll includes a range of responses, but only considers a single/select few and ignores the rest.
That's a good question. That is a poorly formed poll.

if in fact all it takes is 50 votes of interest and ignores all other positions, then I would suggest that the poll offer just one response:

"I support this"

And then you count those.

Since all other responses are ignored, why ask?

Once people get used to the process that new board polls are seeking to ONLY gauge positive interest, only those interested in that board will enter the poll.

Just my two cents. Cheers!

"1. Be Impeccable With Your Word
Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.

2. Don't Take Anything Personally
Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won't be the victim of needless suffering.

3. Don't Make Assumptions
Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.

4. Always Do Your Best
Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse and regret."

Well..it used to be 30 Yes votes get the board.

And plenty of boards got the 30 with many many more saying "no".

But.

There is a logic here – it's not an election – it's a measure of whether anyone would support the board and 30 (or 40 now) was obviously deemed a strong enough level of support.

My understanding – for what it's worth (about 2cents I believe).

Sometimes we get new boards and then they don't get used and stay here. Yes, that was a dig at the "Empire" Board. No real housekeeping has occurred since the merger of the Terrain and Scenics boards some years back.
