I was a little boy and don't remember nothing, but maybe some fellow members have memories of those days?
What you feel?

I was too little as well, to remember anything.

However, in that decade, Combat, 12 O'clock High, McHale's Navy, and Rat Patrol were the shows to watch, even if they were in black and white.

I remember it well, I was just going into High School and parts of the state National Guard were activated and went south to Fort Benning in Georgia to wait out events. There was talk of an invasion of Cuba at the time. I also remember the tv broadcasting a live report of the interception of a Soviet ship by the US Navy. Lots of tension!!!

I remember the period well.

Tension was quite high; neighbours finishing their fall-out shelters, the drills at school and the evening news with Walter Cronkite.

Before I was born, but I did a research paper once about the incident during high school after watching the movie "The Missiles of October." It fascinated me at the time.

You should also watch the version in "X-Men: First Class" with young Xavier (Professor X) and Magnus (Magneto).

Was to little to remember but my mom told us when we were older. At one point, she made dinner and put us kids to bed that night thinking in the morning we'd be at war with Russia.

The US should have invaded Cuba and crushed them flat.

I remember everyone being scared and thinking we were going to war.

We used to do duck and cover drills in the late 1960s in elementary school.

Not that it would have mattered much, since I have no doubt I was situated within the CEP of multiple, multi-megaton warheads, due to the nearby naval, air, and military bases I lived near.

Ah, to be young and ignorant of the dangerous world we live in once again……….

I too remember those and the cartoon commercials on the black & white TV …

I was station at MacDill AFB Florida in the 80s. The base was originally built for B-24 bomber training. So has one of the longest runways in the Eastern US. Later on I met one of the commanders of one of the bomber squadrons deployed there during the crisis.

He basically stated every AFB in the state of Florida was packed wing tip to wing tip with planes. Every plane was kept warm and ready to go. Trucks were rolling in every hour of the day carrying bombs from the rail yard. At one point they were told to man their planes and they rolled them to the endof the runway. They sat there for a couple hours. You can see the run way from the front gate so imagine there were Russian agents calling Moscow from Tampa saying the Americans were getting ready to bomb Cuba.

Too close to going hot for my tastes.

I liked how it was portrayed in the movie "13 Days" with Kevin Costner.

Don't know if it was completely accurate, of course, but a good movie!

Oh the old duck and cover days,

"The US should have invaded Cuba and crushed them flat."

Considering that the Soviet ground forces had tac nukes (FROGs) and that about half the IRBMs were operational, that might not have been such a great idea. Unless you really want to start WWIII…

Unless you really want to start WWIII . . .
That actually describes some of the more vociferous posters on TMP, and they don't care if it was the '50s, the '80s, or today.

In the future … the only crisis in Cuba will be how fast US businesses can legally open up shop ! Which … at this point I'm all for … but it will probably have to wait until the Castro Bros. and most of their homies/cohorts die off … Cuba will be like it was in the '50s … The Vegas of the Caribbean …
