March 19, 2015 Update We are four days away from our Kickstarter ( Monday, March 23 at 12pm EST ) and we have been hard at work trying to finish up our Cavalry and add some more concept art so you can visualize each of our Stretch Goals. We placed some new pictures of our digital sculpts for the four different cavalry variants and added some new art for war machines and support heroes. Check out our pictures on our website or Facebook page. For more information check out watchfulistudio.wordpress.com link Be sure to Like us on Facebook as it will have a direct impact on the types of freebies we give away during our Kickstarter. The Warring States range will include the core elements of an ancient Chinese army including infantry equipped with a wide range of weaponry, light and heavy chariots, various types of cavalry and the officers to lead them. Building on top of the core range will be two more launches including a fantasy element and support troops such as animated Terracotta warriors, dragons, undead warriors, exorcists, war engines, siege bows, shield-bearers, and war drums to name a few. Product Briefing Range: Warring States / Qin Dynasty ( 475 – 206 B.C. ) Wave 1: Core Product allowing players to build the mainstay of Chinese armies 1. General including various head and arm options 2. Infantry including unarmored, light, and heavy infantry with head and weapon options 3. Chariots including light, heavy and officer's chariots 4. Cavalry including light, heavy and nomadic cavalry Historical Origin: China Scale: 28mm Casting Material: Metal ( Plastic depending on Kickstarter results ) Manufactured in the USA Range: Warring States / Qin Dynasty ( 475 – 206 B.C. ) Wave 2: Fantasy Product Range as a possible supplement opened up in the Stretch Goals portion of the Kickstarter 1. Fu Dogs 2. Terracotta Soldiers 3. Fangshi Exorcist 4. Undead 5. Hu-Hsien 6. Fangshi Necromancer 7. Dragon Historical Origin: China Scale: 28mm Casting Material: Metal Manufactured in the USA No force would not be complete without the myriad of war machines and support options that make fielding armies unique. Adding a variety of support choices can turn your standard army into a potent offensive force or a immovable solid stone wall. The army support options maintain a more historical feel to the army and may be included in both historical and fantasy games. Range: Warring States / Qin Dynasty ( 475 – 206 B.C. ) Wave 3: Army Support Product Range as a possible supplement opened up in the Stretch Goals portion of the Kickstarter 1. Shieldbearers 2. Alternate poses for archers and crossbowmen and repeating crossbowmen 3. Giant crossbows 4. War Drums 5. Siege bows 6. Catapults 7. Looks very good, but you may be setting yourself up for trouble with regard to the sheer flexibility you're offering. You might be better off limiting each "element" to 1 or at most 2 choices of arm / head / whatever, rather than allowing infinite mixing and matching. Casting and picking "20 heavy spearmen" is a hell of a lot less time consuming than "8 unarmoured, 6 light, 6 heavy bodies with 4 different head sprues, an assortment of a dozen different arms all in specific numbers, 6 round shields, 6 large shields, 4 bows and 4 quivers"…. Also I don't see any numbers for the contents of the plastics, if you get to them – it says "we are targeting the numbers above" but I can't see any numbers above it…. |

As a follow-up, I can't see much about shipping charges either – you *really* want to make sure you have your numbers on that bit. Shipping costs, especially international, probably sink as many Kickstarters as any other problem, so make sure you have an *extremely* good idea what shipping each pledge level will cost you, both domestically and overseas, and think hard about how much of that you're willing to pony up and how much you need to pass on. Your current "basic pledges ship free of charge worldwide and add-ons have unspecified postage charges" looks like it could be problematic. Also only having it specified in the $1 USD pledge box makes it very hard to find – it probably needs to be in the introuduction section, before people even scroll down to the different element packs. [Heck, now that I think about it, the fact that it's only in the $1 USD box rather implies that you're *not* offering free shipping at all, but have just left shipping charges completely unspecified – that's not good at all – people have to know what they're paying.] |

I agree with Dom that I think your campaign probably has a few too many options to make fulfillment time or cost effective. I think you'd better off streamlining the options and pledge levels. I also STRONGLY agree that shipping needs to be nailed down; European backers in particular are going to find this a major concern. If you want international backers you need to get some rough numbers out there. -Will |

The stretch goal/freebies could be better explained. I don't think you need to go overboard with freebies, but I'm assuming the pledges that are qualifying for freebies are going to be capped? Also explain the plastic goal earlier in the page, those of us who have been following the development of this project know the details but noobs may not. I think the flexibility of custome parts is a great idea, but speaking only for myself I would still back this to the hilt with less options. I'm in Australia, and am price sensitive with postage, it's not going to be cheap with all that metal. That just means give me as much info as you can, and get a definitive answer as quickly as possible. There are a couple of freight forwarders who do a pretty good job getting goods to Australia from the US that may be cheaper than you know. ustooz.com is one that is well regarded here. And please God tell me you are not dealing with Defiance games on this. They've screwed a lot of people over across more than one KS afaik. But I'm in for this like no tomorrow. |

Yeah, I posted in the thread on ancients, but I think it's worth reiterating: 1. Postage needs to both be sorted out and explained. 2. The flexibility seems like it would cause more trouble than the results it might bring – some flexibility good, but this much might be rough. Having the option for heavy, light, and peasant spears, dagger-axes, xbows, bows, and levy javelins might be the way to go, and then just throw in a set of command options with each type. It unfortunately puts the heads in kind of a weird place, as people might want different heads, but the trouble it would cause could be immense. 3. A better explanation of stretch goals – do they bring about freebies, allow the option of paid add-ons, or both? And all that information should probably be placed in a general chunk at the top of the page. Anyhow, I'm pretty chuffed for these! |

April 8, 2015 Update We have two weeks left in our Kickstarter and our goal has been reached!!!! We have been working diligently on making sure the production process runs smoothly so everyone can get their toys in a timely manner. This process has allowed us to reevaluate our budget for manufacturing and we were able to save some money. We wanted passed along these savings to the Kickstarter backers in the guise of lowering our Stretch Goal amounts. Over the past two weeks we have posted pictures of painted miniatures, shown off work in progress of our Terracotta soldiers and hit 600 Likes on our Facebook unlocking some freebies for some of our backers. We hope you take some time and check out the Kickstarter and get in on the action before the fundraiser ends. link For more information check out

Hello everyone. We have 3 days left on our Kickstarter and we unlocked our first Stretch Goal opening up the Repeating Crossbow, Shieldbearers, and alternate poses for the Archers and Crossbowmen. We are getting close to unlocking the next Stretch Goal which is going to be the Undead – reanimated corpses of fallen warriors and civilians who died building the Great Wall. Over the past few days we also opened up some new Add-on items for purchase. The Drunken Master and Swordmaster below and we also had a backer purchase the highest pledge enabling him to have a miniature sculpted based on his design. Well, with the concept art approved we decided to offer that hero as an Add-on. You can check out all the action on the Kickstarter and jump in while the water is warm. :) link |
