Have any of you guys used the 30 Years' War figures (or any figures, really) made by Permes for gaming? They are available on Wargame Vault, and are not very expensive, especially since there is no limit as to how many you can make--but are they worth the trouble?

I should admit here that I have 28mm ECW already, but the style of the Permes figures is very attractive (not to mention the fact that no painting is required), so I'm tempted. Like I need yet another project..)

My impression is figures like the musketeers, officers, etc., would hold up fine, but long, thin pikes? I don't want to substitute wire pikes for them; a minimum of trouble is key.

Any thoughts?

Plastic broom bristles will not break, bend out of shape permanently or stab you!

I have a few of the sets and was planning to use them to try out s few rules. I don't have any ECW/30YW figures. They are quite attractive.

One key to these (or any) paper figure is to make the pikes thicker than they need to be. You can leave 2mm of white space around them and the figure to bulk them up some. Also, use 110lbs paper for maximum strength.

I am not fond of the flat artillery. Guns look better when they are 2.5D. That is they have 2 separate wheels and an axle to go along with the gun.

Thanks. I guess I should risk a couple of bucks and see how they are.

John (aka Joker), it's interesting how often our minds travel the same roads. I guess we must have a psychotic link…
