The Shermans in 'Fury' were 'Fury' itself; 'Old Phyllis', 'Murder Inc'; 'Lucy Sue'; and 'Matador'. Does anyone know what models these were? I'm considering doing them in 1/56, so wanted to start off with the correct base models. I think: * 'Fury' and 'Matador' are M4A3E8 76mm (played by M4A2E8's, but let's keep it simple! * 'Murder Inc' is an M4A3 75mm 'Lucy Sue' and 'Old Phyllis' I'm not sure about. Any help, or links to pictures of these more obsure ones appreciated. |

Old Phyliss appears to be an M4A1(76)W |

'Fury' is an M4A2E8 (76)W HVSS Sherman tank from the Bovington Tank Museum, formerly 'Ron/Harry'. 'Lucy Sue', an M4A2 Sherman from Tay Restorations. 'Matador' is M4E8 (76)W HVSS Sherman from Jeep Sud Est. 'Murder, Inc.' is an M4A4 Sherman from Adrian Barrell. 'Old Phyllis' is an M4A1 (76)W Sherman. |

Of course they used what they could get for the movie but you might consider making "Lucy Sue" as an M4A3 75 (W)since with very few exceptions the M4A2 was only operated in Europe by the French and British. Likewise you might change "Murder Inc" Into an early production M4 with a 3 piece transmission housing (just make sure it has, or you add, applique armor.) It is true that at the end of the Bulge the Americans managed to get a very small number of the A2 and A4 tanks so I suppose that you could use those although the other models would have been much more common. But if you want to be faithful to the movie the earlier recommendations are correct. |

Thanks- good info. Looking at the above, I think the best balance between the film/ realism/ model availability seems to be: * 'Fury' and 'Matador'- M4A3E8 resin models from Blitzkrieg miniatures * 'Old Phyllis'- M4A3 with 76mm gun plastis kit from Rubicon * 'Murder Inc' and 'Lucy Sue'- M4A3 plastic kits from Warlord Games (especially as I have three of these unbuilt already!) 'Old Phyllis is a bit of a compromise as no-one seems to do the rounded cast hull |

Late to the game here, but looking at doing the same. Blitzkrieg certainly now do the M4A1 Sherman needed for 'Old Phyllis' |

The British Army handed over 500 Shermans to US forces in 1945, which must surely have included quite a lot of M4A2 and M4A4, as they were the main types used by the British Army. |

When things went pear shaped in the Ardennes some US troops were obliged to draw replacement tanks from a British depot. They wouldn't still be using them five months later though |

Why not? There were still DDs landed on D-Day that were still with their units on VE Day. |
