Hmmm … is a "practice game" a bit like a "test match"?

Wow! Simply outstanding figures and terrain coupled with a fine batrep.

Thanks for sharing it.

Hey Sparker, nice to see you here again!!
Great looking game, love all those wonderfully painted Calpe figures. Big units as well!
Nice to see the appropriate blue uniformed commanders for the cavalry.

Thanks for posting.

We will be putting on the the Battle of Plancenoit at our local con at the end of the month. I've painted up Von Bulow's Corps using Calpe figures for this. Just over 700 of them.

Sparker -

Wonderful photos (I can't get enough of them).

I suggest you check out Atkin's Waterloo Companion for details of the fight between Lobau and the Prussians. Napoleon did not send his VI Corps and the two light cavalry brigades to oppose the Prussians who were coming out of the Paris Wood until 1330 hours. The French deployed in line of battle and then waited two hours for the Prussians to exit the Paris Wood

Atkins also answers the question of why the French didn't impede the Prussian
march at the Lasne defile. For one thing, the Prussians did not cross the narrow bridge at Lasne until 1400-1500 hours. The Lasne defile is about 3 km. east of the western edge of the Paris Wood. Atkins says that Lobau did not have enough time to get there.

Bulow began his attack about 1700 hours.

He was followed by the Prussian II Corps (Pirch 1), not Thielemann's III Corps, most of which stayed at Wavre and fought Grouchy.

Too bad you didn't include the struggle for Plancenoit.

And not one photo of Philip with a mug of char in his hand. He must have gone teatotal.

Thanks fellas!

Yes I think Philip must rely on his camel hump when he's playing 'away games'!

Looking forward to seeing phots of the Plancenoit game…

Dan, yes thanks for this. Adkin is indeed invaluable. Initially I was trying to replicate von Losthin's initial deployment emerging from the Bois de Paris, but it doesn't translate well to the wargames table as the French can deploy forward too quickly and pinch off the exits. So we will restrict the French deployment to pretty much the way you describe it.

Good report, Sparkles. Promises to be an outstanding spectacle on the day. Particularly like the 'mini-portraits' beside the commanders – a really good touch for an exhibition game. But, no Plancenoit? Best to hope Herr Hofschroer does not hear about it! 8-)
