Does anyone know what the year will be for this setting? 1970's, 1980's? |

Flames of War are a set of historical miniature wargames rules, so the setting will be 2017 like the real WWIII. Mike Bunkermeister Creek Bunker Talk blog |

Yea, though hopefully they'll do some other periods as well. With their Vietnam and Middle Eastern minis, and some from other companies, you can do 1950s and later, with a little creativity, now. |

Is anyone else really happy with this release? I think the FOW should always have been cold war era, they suit mechanized forces very well, infantry has always been a bit abstract and infantry companies super under-strength and over-supported by assets in WW2 but a cold war era Mechanized infantry company with tank support in the cold war seems like a perfect fit to me (ideally on a 8x6 table imo). What are people going to be playing? I am trying to decide between East German or Czech at the moment, like the idea of playing a minor Warsaw Pact force. |

Hmm. And use the old VG's "NATO: The Next War in Europe" to run the campaign game. |

Cold War gaming has got me very excited, but I think I'll wait till we know what the book will cover before planning any forces. No use buying an 85 Polish force if they're not included. Of course playing Russians you could probably buy anything 85 related and you'll be fine. |

Regardless of what it is it doesn't sound like it is for me. But I hope it does really well for them. |

I'm expecting Team Yankee or Red Storm Rising, so mid-1980s. BF did say Abrams and T72s, after all. |

I thought I saw 1985 mentioned somewhere in the BF Forums. |

There's already a nice, unofficial FOW Cold War set of rules and TO&Es available now. Try looking under 15mm Cold War, and/or Cold War Hot on the net, and you should be able to turn it up. Sorry, can't recall the exact name of the blog, currently. |

Found it – Stopping the Red Tide: stoppingtheredtide.blogspot.com Worth a look, though after his move, the guy hasn't updated his blog in the last year, or so. Still, some very useful info, and links, so worth checking out. |

My worry with Cold War FoW was always the limitations of range of effect of a D6 roll – you can already see it with late war heavy armoured monsters vs lower (or even middle) end AT giving fixed results – with the assorted types of armour and projectile around at the time you either have to give everything a basic number and no more assuming the best round is fired (fine but then you are stuck with a D6 range of effect) or you start introducing a layer of complexity of armour types vs shell/missile warhead types. How they choose to deal with that will be interesting to see |

I look forward to this line coming out as well. Having served in the 2nd Bn in Europe to get the M1 it will offer me the ability to paint my own command. I will build at least a soviet style tank battalion w/supports and at least a Company Task Force Tank heavy. I plan on running a game at Little Wars 2016. The only issue will be figure availability. Will you actually see the line appear in the shops. I still have major problems getting Arab/Israeli stuff. |

Well, if the rules are out, there will be no problem in getting 15mm cold war figures – QRF for ex do a pretty full range. |

I've not much experience in modern gaming. Anyone know if the already released T-55 models would be usable? |
Zoring | 18 Mar 2015 7:37 p.m. PST |
The T-55's will most likely be in use by the minor nations East-German, Bulgaria, Czech, Poland, etc would most likely still be using them in 1985, in an all out war scenario. |
