Hi, I have a 4' square wargames table and was wondering which is the best scale to get. Also I am after a set of rules which does not use hexes, has differences in ships but is not complicated. I usually have 2 hours to play my games in. Many Thanks Rich. |

While 1/1200 would give you a little more gaming space on your table size (due to shorter ranges and smaller movement distances), either would work well. A river setting for a game would not be more than 2' wide and if you're going for open ocean, 4' is plenty. |

I agree given the size of your space that 1/1200 would work best. Age of Iron is a fun, simple set of rules. Gives a good and shortish game. I love them. Beer and Pretzels ironclads is fun too. I have played it at cons but don't have the rules so I can't comment too much. |

Definitely 1/1200 on that size of table, IMHO |

1/1200 and Sail and Steam Navies. The rules are available at wargames vault. The rules are pretty easy and almost everything can be handed on the QRS. Jim |

Another vote for 1/1200 on that scale of table. I'd recommend David Manley "Iron and Fire" rules. |

Cheers for the replies, I found I had a copy of river wars in my library on wargames vault so will start with that. Iron and Fire looks good so may try that later. 1/1200th it is then. I have looked at Langton Miniatures and Navwar. Langton look great but Navwar are cheaper. I have navwar 1/3000th for my WW1 and WW2 Cheers Rich. |

The Navwar models are perfectly acceptable, indeed my original 1/1200 fleets were practically all Navwar although I have replaced many of them with Langtons, and Rod's 90 day gunboat model is way, way better than the navwar one |

The Houston's ships from Stone Mountain are nice. Not Langton nice but as good as or better than Navwar. |
