"Andy told me he has the idea to cover the complete French Gribeauval system of guns, wagons, etc.

Interesting for me and some other friends who think about making gun-crews. For example one of my own projects is a horse artillery-crew for 1796 to go with the 6-pounder…"

Re- think – the Gribeauval system had only 4 – 8 – 12 pounders in 1796 – no 6 pounder then, this was introduced later when the artillery comission under Marmont improved the Gribeauval system.

So was I, at first.

I think he meant you show the same knowledge of artillery we would expect from the good Dr S!

I cannot believe you could sculpt that trumpeter, paint the cuirassiers to that standard and also, additionally, be that much of an authority on gunnery………..surely!

Bad joke from my part, but deadhead is right, your knowledge is at the level of the good Doctor.

In the meantime I read that the French horse artillery lamented that the 4-pounders have no real impact on the enemy and the 8-pounders were too heavy for them.

So for the 1796 project it is the 4-pounder and for the early Peninsular war it will be a 6-pounder gun.

cheers
Uwe

and if read on, they then changed their minds, as I recall, and wished they had the 8pdr back again, but it was too late by then.

Plus ca change…….plus c'est la meme chose……

for the Penisular war it is doubtfull if the French 6 pdr ever materialized.

As for the 4 – 6 – 8 pdr horse artillery question, there was a big discussion then in the French army itself, where some horse artillery gunners wished to be equipped with the 8 pdr gun.

One would have to check OdB

@The Bavarian

I would be interested in a quote where the French Horse Artillery lamented that the 8 pdr was too heavy for them?
