With GB coming out with both of these at the same time, I may have to rethink my direction on my plastic armies. I asked on the FF forum about when the heavy mongols would be released and got no response. That would be two years of Salute in a row with no new figures from FF. So my expansion will be mounted arabs, instead of mongols. It's a shame I really like the FF figures. Also, the GB foot come about forty to a box vs. the FF less than thirty for about the same price. Good news indeed! I need to see sprues before making a definite call – which means I will get me at least one set, but may be building a full Ottoman host, if these are usable for Akinci and Sipahi. With WG also releasing Janissaries (if in metal) for this era the conflict from 1522-1532, with the conquest of Serbia and Hungary, the battle Mohacs, the first siege of Vienna, the battle of Leobersdorf (some 10000 Akinci) and the fictive clash of the main hosts of Suleyman and Charles I in 32 finally becomes possible. |

I can't wait to see these and determine what I can make them into, depending on the parts included in the mix. |

I'll have to get some for my WW1 Turkish army The bowcases suggest they are aimed at a much earlier period. In fact, given that the GB FaceBook post doesn't mention a period, I suspect these are aimed at the Crusades. The "Turkoman" in the second photo would be a rather dubious interpretation of the figure in Ian Heath's WRG Crusades book: "dubious" in that Heath's version of the hat – see link – was already a bit smaller and neater than those in his 13th-14th century original sources such as
or link and the GB version has carried on that progression to become something like an early-C20th fez. |

And there is precious little of an identifiable siyah on either bow. In metal it is relatively easy to modify the bow to show this – depending on what period you want the horse archer to represent, but in plastic – a mite more difficult |
