A long time ago I read that the newly arrived Italian Semoventes for the Gazala battles were, at least initially, attached to a German formation, probably the Afrika Division.
Can anyone back this up?

According to Greene and Massignani the Semoventes were attached to Ariete.

Ariete did of course support DAK as it outflanked the Gazala position, possibly the source of the confusion?
