Depends upon if you want to use bombers, or not, and their wingspans. Generally, 3" – 4" hexes, if using bombers, or 2" if not. Note also, if you plan to use modern aircraft, they are generally larger than WWII planes, so I think then, a 3" hex is the minimum size required. |

I use 3" hexes for my 1/300 W.W. II planes. I had a mat with 1 1/2" hexes, but it was too small for when there was more than 1 plane in a hex at a time. I picked up 2 Hotz Mats with 3" hexes and the size is great for Check Your 6! games. |

Be careful with Hotz. I am about to initiate the Dispute process through PayPal because they have failed to deliver on an order of 4 sets of fields I placed at the beginning of February, along with a promised refund due to ordering 3+ sets, and they have not responded to any emails from me for a month. A buddy of mine didn't have any trouble, so it seems it's a YMMV situation for some reason. |

Any body stock or make hex mats in the UK? I bought one at a show about 18 months ago from Magister Militum. It was uniform medium blue in colour with 2" hexes in white. I think that a sand coloured one was available too. I would like to know of a UK source of more elaborate mats too. |
