A platoon of Rommel's battle hardened Afrika Korps to face my Desert Rats and commandos! Great sculpts from BTD and a steal in their recent 50% off sale. I wanted this platoon to have a variety of sun- faded and captured uniform, but still look part of the same unit. Command and more support weapons on the way. Thanks for the comments! As for colours used, I like to go for quite a weathered, battle- hardened look and use a lot of drybrushing, especially for desert troops like these. I started them all off with a coat of Army Painter Desert Yellow spray, then 'dusted' them with AP Skeleton Bone. This alone would give a good basic colour if you wanted a more uniform look, or wanted to get your men on the table in a hurry. For the 'newer' olive green jackets I went for Russian Uniform with a Khaki highlight; the lighter green uniform was Yellow Green/ Dark Yellow highlight, and the darker sandy uniform Desert Yellow/ Iraqi Sand highlight. Webbing, pouches etc was basically the same for canvas items, Chocolate Brown/ Saddle Brown for leather. All colours are Vallejo. I then gave them an all over wash with a light, brushed on coat of AP Strong Tone, and finished off with AP anti- shine spray varnish. |
