This 1990s Italian-made movie has a bit of a cult following, and I finally got around to watching it. Unfortunately, the version I saw was not high quality, and perhaps edited for television (no nudity? in an Italian movie?).
The set-up is that our hero, Mark Fierro (played by Fabio Testi), has been transferred back to Miami to clean up the mafia involvement in crime. His ex-wife (never seen) is the daughter of "retired" mafia boss Ben Costa; there is also a daughter, Paloma, who gets dumped on Fierro by the ex-wife.
There's also a District Attorney who is a bit of a jerk, and doesn't like the way Fierro works. Plus a former asst. D.A. who is now lawyering for the mafia – she seems to have a thing for Fierro… And Fierro gets his old partner transferred back to work with him.
The problem is that someone is killing off the mafia families. The gunmen wear masks, and are often killed after their hits. Who is behind the mafia war?
Can it be gamed?
In its entirety, no. The cops mostly bumble from place to place as the murders occur, and have little impact on the actual plot! Yes, they get targeted a few times… a few "good guys" are injured or killed… but from a gaming perspective, it would be kind of random. Hard to make into a campaign without serious rethink of the plot.
The ending, however, is kind of cool. Fierro (and a last-minute volunteer sidekick) go into a warehouse/industrial site to rescue two kidnapped victims. More cops on their way. Site is filled with mafia guys with automatic weapons; Fierro has a pistol! Lots of interesting terrain – big excavation vehicles, towers, piles of rock, a quarry, and the warehouse itself. And a final plot twist.
About the movie: If there was swearing, I didn't notice it. Lots of silly movie violence, no gore that I recall. I don't remember any nudity or sex scenes in this version. Fierro sometimes takes a "finishing shot" on a wounded perp! And do police salute? Maybe in Italy…
