On Saturday night at Cold Wars, we reset the 20 ft. table we had used for our morning "Fate of Battle" Napoleonic game, "Battle of Paris, 1814", (See report here: link ) with fantasy figures for a big 12-player "Battle for the Elven Capitol" game using the mass combat fantasy rules, "Bear Yourselves Valiantly" and 10mm figures. Buck Surdu, Dave Wood, and I all co-GMed the game so there was plenty of help for players new to the rules.

In this outing, the High Elves (and some of their Elven cousins from the Woods and Sea), replaced the French from the earlier Battle of Paris game; and a loose alliance of Dwarves, Antmen, Undead, and Goblins replaced
the Prussians and Russians from 1814. This time the attackers were bent on ransacking the Elven city and capturing the wealth it contained.

"Battle of the Elven Capitol"

Hmmm … so where is the legislative building they are fighting for?

Yes, the rules, Bear Yourselves Valiantly (for ancient, mediaeval, and fantasy games) and Fate of Battle (for Napoleonic games) are available through On Military Matters.

Bear Yourselves Valiantly is not very complicated. We had a ten-year-old boy operating independently (with little GM assistance) after the second turn. Fate of Battle is a little more complex, but easily picked up within about two hours. We find that half way through a four-hour convention game, we only have to assist with nuances of the rules and adjudicate whether units are in range, etc. -- even with a 12-player game like the one we ran at Cold Wars.

moonfleetminis-
Thanks! I've never played Warmaster so can't comment on the comparitive complexity. I would say they were moderately complex. As you can see in the photos we had kids playing who were able to grasp the rules, and older folks who weren't bored.
The rules are avialbe from On Military Matters:

MajorB- Yeah you got me, I spelled it wrong. The building is located in the capital, right behind the heights. :)
