This may be a stupid question, but does anyone know of schematic drawings of later renaissance guns? I've been trying for a while to design some, and its a frustration to have to try to work from images that aren't much more than sketches. Period prints where artillery appears as part of a larger battle scene only really give an impression. Its (relatively) easy to get plans of 19th/20th century stuff, even 18th, but before that detailed analysis seems to be thin on the ground. I'm looking at late 16th century cannons for Western Europe, any advice would be useful. |

There may be illustrations in the old Funken book, I think vol. 2 with Swiss pike on cover. |

If you can find a copy of "Roundshot and Rammers", it has a couple of schematics for 16th century cannons including carriages. If you are looking for just barrels, there's Luis Collado's book, from the 1590s. The book itself is difficult to find (no modern English translations) but the NPS handbook on artillery has some of the pictures from it: link |

That's a great start, especially the barrel sections; I can work directly from them. Cheers! |

This old book of plates may be useful: link |
