I thought I'd give a few of the new Warlord Games/ Bolt Action 1/56 plastic kits a go and try my hand at painting and weathering vehicles, as I haven't really done much of either.

The commander actually looks a lot better at actual size. I was struggling to balance the right level of detail on him and it isn't a very crisp casting/ moulding.

I was also frustrated about my own lack of success at photography- these pics have come out very drab.

The good: The kits are straightforward, easy to build, have a good level of detail and are relatively inexpensive

The bad: I gave up trying to get the gun to remain free to elevate and depress so just glued it in one position; the commander isn't very detailed and looks too small compared to most 28mm miniatures IMO. The zimmerit looks a bit too uniform for a hand- applied paste

The ugly: The track halves are a bad fit and leave a considerable gap at both ends on the Panther

This one is being auctioned off to make room for more experimenting:

Too bad about the tracks. You've done a nice job on it. I thought their resin kit of the A with Zimmerit was pretty awesome.

I've had the same trouble with a few of their other tracks on PZ 3

I think these plastic kits are part of the Arrangement with Italeri – hence the small figures.

I had the same problem with the tracks. If you cut the top one in half.then you can glue both ends and the gap is in the middle on top under the side panels. I didn't realise this until I'd glued it together.

I built three of them. No problem with the tracks.

Tracks worked fine for me, unlike their Sherman …

Oddly, I have had no trouble with the Sherman tracks and have built 5 of them. The problems people have seem to vary greatly. I was going to get some of these Panthers as well, but may take this chance to try out some Rubicon models, which I have not had the pleasure of building yet.

Interesting variety of experiences!

I like the idea of splitting the track at the top where any gap would be hidden.

Another issue I had with the Panther was the 'U' shaped tow mounts at either end.

Despite very careful cutting off the sprue with a very sharp scalpel, most broke and had to be carefully glued back together.

I haven't tried the Rubicon models yet, but will give them a go when time and funds permit.
