Hello I visited Cold Wars for the first time this year (from Australia). I just want to thank all the organisers, game masters (especially Phil and Mark for the Napoleon at War games, Bruce for the 1870 game, Todd for the Blucher game and Dave for the Shako 2 game), Jim Arnold for his seminars and everyone else that I talked to (who were all unfailingly friendly and helpful). I had a great time and I hope to return one day. If I can offer one piece of unsolicited advice: guys enjoy what you've got. I understand that there are problems at times, but it is a great show (and 20 times bigger than our one day show in Melbourne). Now time to continue my ACW battlefield trek. Regards |

I completely agree. AussieAndy, thanks for making the trip. Daniel, a vendor at Cold Wars. |

Thank you Aussieandy for your voice of reason. This post should be required reading for all of the "whiners" that constantly complain about the HMGS East conventions. Things may not always be perfect, but we should be grateful for what we have. Thanks to all of the staff at Cold Wars for another fun event. |

Completely agree with all the sentiments here! Personally had a brilliant time – great games and great friends! And a special shout out to the Crown Royal shot girls who warmed up Saturday evening – they certainly took my mind off the cold weather outside…… (getting stink eye from the wife right now) |

Had an enjoyable time at Cold Wars, even without knowing about the Crown Royal gals. I'll look harder next time. |

Big thanks to all the con staff. It is a lot of work and the show couldn't go on without them. :-) |

And thanks from me to the vendor hall staff who kept things thrumming along nicely. I know that some of the vendors got there late on Thursday night and staff stayed to make sure that they got their stuff unloaded so they could be set up in time the next day. They certainly deserve praise for going above and beyond the call of duty to see that the dealer hall was not crazy on Friday morning. |

Just back last night - Pluses - > Brian de Witt's retro-fit of CY6 to WW1 once again delivered a great game. > Sank my friend's flagship (armored cruiser) on the first shot of turn one of the Battle of the Yellow Sea. He still gave me a ride home. That's friendship! > Congrats to the Lancaster Host for FINALLY providing some decent gaming tables! > HMGS registration system worked smoothly (for me) – Yay. Minuses - > The food at the Host was really poor and really expensive. > Attendance was somewhat light, probably due to the unexpectedly heavy snowstorm on Thursday. Still saw a lot of old cronies who braved the elements and came in from some respectable distances. B |

Had a good con, too. Crappy rude up there on Friday morning and parking was crazy. But ran 4 games of Battlegroup Kursk---thanks to all the gracious and friendly players in all games! And bought more shiny loot in the vendor area and Wally's Basement! On to Historicon!! |

Thanks to all who make it happen. Had a great time. Thank you to Pete, Dan, Jeff, Will, Marty and Mike who played in my SCW game. I couldn't have asked for a better group of guys. Good gamers and great sports. A second thank you to Jeff who as always provided a set of his very nice custom SCW pin markers which we presented to Will who played in his first SCW game. See you in Fredericksburg. DM |

"> Congrats to the Lancaster Host for FINALLY providing some decent gaming tables!" The Host does not have nearly enough tables for a game convention. HMGS gets them from a 3rd party provider. Duncan |

Lets also thank the vendors yes its a business but one that supports our hobbies and gives us the ability to play the games we dream of. So hats off to all I know it was a bear setting up at Cold Wars at the Con. My travel was horrible but made it. |

I'd like to thank the GMs of the games I played in--Jeff, Annemarie--especially since I was a tad late showing up in Annemarie's Pennsylvania Pete adventure game but she still found room, and that Jeff found a slot for me in his game Friday night, where silliness, overacting, and outrageous accents abounded. I'd also like to thank the gentlemen who gave my godson his spectacularly memorable first wargame ever (Wings of Glory), wherein beginner's luck may or may not have allowed him to shoot all his opponents down ("Curse you, Phantom Flyer!"). I think we have an new excited wargamer on our hands. I'd like to thank the folks who brought their children to play, and the GMs who designed a wonderfully broad selection of games for the kids. And while some might believe that our cash is thanks enough, thank you, vendors, for showing up and letting us see close up and personal what we have only glimpsed in catalogs or online. Your presence is a large part of the draw of gaming conventions. And while I realize that parking and traction was rather problematic, I would like to thank the Host who managed to clear about 6-9 inches of snow, which all dropped within about 24 hours having followed hard on an ice storm two days before that, as well as they did. And thanks to the gamers themselves who, as far as I could tell, were relatively low-key and not doing their best arsehat imitations this weekend. Courtesy and even cheerfulness did show its face, much to my pleased surprise and not to my dreaded expectations otherwise. |

I agree that we should all be very thankful to the HMGS Staff and dealers that make this wonderful event possible. I am always impressed by how friendly and helpful the HMGS staff are at these events. Thank you all!! |

The tables I used seemed to be much less beat up. No splinters in hands or ripped up sweaters due to ragged edges as in past years. Now to shake off the plague that was running rampant over the weekend. Only minus of the weekend. DM |

Andy, it was nice visiting briefly with you in the dining room Saturday night when my friend and I had trouble finding a table. Thanks again for the kind offer to join you, even if the other bench at your booth had no cushion. I hope you enjoy the rest of your trip, have much better weather, and come back to an HMGS eastern convention again. Tom |
AussieAndy | 09 Mar 2015 6:05 p.m. PST |
Thanks Tom Oddly enough, I dined at the Garryown pub in Gettysburg last night. The Garryowen is also the name of Australia's premier equestrienne event. It is named after a horse that died in a fire in the 1930s, along with the horse's owner. It is staged about five minutes from my house. Regards |
