This was a 40mm run by Chris Parker, the author of Light Bobs. (Currently on sale at On Military Matters, and in the UK at Caliver Books. This is a set of rules very suitable for smaller scale engagements like Princeton, Concord, Wyoming Massacre, Paili, etc. I would hesitate to play Brandywine. The player is a battalion commander and his units are companies, ranging in size from 4 for elite to 12 for wretched. Both sides are involved simultaneously with the possibility of preemptive volley fire. Mechanisms are easy to understand, with good troops being gooder than bad troops. Morale is based on number and quality, modified by disruption factors accumulated. The OFM highly recommends these rules. |

I'm going to pick up a copy tomorrow before I leave. Should work for Indians in the FIW as well. May even hold up work on Flames of Liberty to play this. It seems to me that we "needed" a game in this scale. Plenty of games where the basic unit is a regiment and plenty of single figure skirmish rules. I am unaware of any with the basic unit the "company" however you define it. Cowpens, Kings Mountain, Moore's Creek etcetera. |

I was hoping they would be suitable for the F&IW, which is what I would want to use them for. I still have an issue that the rules require elite units to be small and crappy units to be large, as large elite units and small crappy units are well known. Perhaps it works out in the game mechanics, but it just strikes me as wrong and artificial. I look forward to hearing more details. |

Hi All First off thanks to John the OFM and many others for stopping by to talk AWI and play Light Bobs. Regardless of you views after the game it was a treat for me. To 79thPA I think your concerns or questions are very valid. I just arrived back from the show and am having a post show martini in the comforts of my home. I will start a new post tomorrow to talk about all of that and I hope you will be involved. Thank you all Chris Parker wargamenews.org dayofbattle.com |
