This came up in a battle with my 13 year old son.
We play 8th rules, but I use one of the alternate armies.
He was Chaos Warriors I was Norsca
It was towards the end of the game
His unit was Archaeon and nine knights and they were surrounded.
He was being hit from the front by two units & aq wizard:
King, army standard and some two handed axement
"Queen" Skald and 5x5 shieldmaidens (swords/shields)
The wiz had turned himself into a red dragon per beast spell
He was flanked on one side by "Jora & the Bear"
If that wasn't enough he was being hit in the rear by Valkyries
So Archaon goes first and is challenged by shieldmaiden unit leader (to keep him from attacking king or "queen")
He kills leader without effort and does five overkills
Ragnar the Unlucky (Norse king) takes out 2 knights
Lagertha (tricked out Norsca queen) takes out the other seven knights*
SO now, the only survivor is Archaeaon, who has already been in a duel. What happens to all the other figs who were originally in contact but no longer face an enemy? Can they attack Archaeon?
The queen is a ridiculously powerful figure.
I have named her Lagertha after the character from "Vikings" TV show
She starts out at 4 St 4 attacks
She has a common magic sword that adds two attacks
She passed her leadership test for beserk, so now has 7 attacks
The skald sang a song giving her +1 to hit
She has magic armor that doubles her strength
So she has seven strength ten attacks that hit on 2+
