Just saw a banner at the top of the TMP home page commemorating E. Gary Gygax. I was surprised that there was not a single thread on the Fantasy board mentioning this so I thought I would start one. Gygax is considered the father of Dungeons and Dragons. He may not have been its sole creator but he elevated the game to a whole new level with his Advanced D&D hard back books. I have very fond memories of playing AD&D with my brother, and Dad as DM, during my Middle School years back in the early 1980's. Rest in peace Gary Gygax. |

Perhaps Bill could get today's TMP masthead corrected then? |

Never noticed it but "March Forth…" is semi-appropriate for GM day :) |

Started playing D&D in high school way back in 1984. It was such a change for me, when you're used to playing Monopoly and Risk, D&D was just on a whole other level. Next it was a visit to RAFM Company to pick up some funny shaped dice of my own to play D&D and that's where I saw miniature soldiers for the first time. It has been 41 years now and I haven't stopped playing RPGs or wargaming. Life changing for sure. Thank you Gary RIP |

I was privileged to correspond with Gary for quite a few years. We both collected and gamed with Elastolin figures. At one point, I actually had the opportunity to work for his company TSR (?), but didn't want to uproot my then young family. |

"Started playing D&D in high school way back in 1984….It has been 41 years now…" We're going to have time travel in 10 years! Wow, thanks for traveling back to let us know. And glad no one has forgotten Gary Gygax in the meantime. (Man I wish TMP had a tongue-in-cheek emoticon.) |

I think it's fair to say that Gary Gygax changed my life. Whether for the better or the worse is probably for others to judge. Many long, long sessions of D&D / AD&D – all night, few hours of sleep and then all the next day, and into another night. It was fun. |

He is sorely missed. He changed the hobby/games forever. |

Was in service when his D&D came out and had limited storage so got to play it at various duty stations. It filled a void that my miniatures couldn't fill at the time. |

Prior to DandD, TSR had mainly historically based miniature rules in their catalog. My first mini game was Napoleonic useing their Tricolor rules. |
