Live from The Hosts parking lot. Fully 1/3rd of the parking lot is unusable. The Host staff are working on it but it will be a mess for the shirt term.

The outer ring of parking is mostly piles of snow. Bring a snowmobile or dogsled.

More later, cheers, Xin

Old, fat wargamer

There are other kinds? :D

Hey, I resemble that remark! But I'd go for the underbelly first: lots of solid blubber there!

Actually, in Car Wars, having a flamethrower would be a really big advantage here!

Wow. A little different then last year when people where golfing!

Once in awhile COLD Wars lives up to its name.

Parking wars continues today! Creative spaces are the order of the day.

well the next two years, the convention is mid-March…so a week later. Of course, this year next weekend is forecast in the mid-40s. NEXT year, Mother Nature will send us a vicious winter storm…she's like that.

Parking was terrible. Worst I have ever seen, including 2007, when it snowed off and on all weekend.

While creative parking might have been the order of the day, the morans that were blocking roadways, by parking there, should have been towed and/or ticketed.

One guy even gave my wife the finger because he was parked in the road, blocking all traffic, and she was trying to get through to look for an actual spot. His car was still there an hour or so later when we left. The front parking lot, to the right of the entrance.

I have always thought that most gamers were decent people but this makes me wonder. Just because you are an uncouth, sub-Neanderthal doesn't mean you should act that way when you are totally in the wrong.

@Capncarp: Hmmm. This seems like a perfect Car Wars scenario… :D

Returned home this afternoon, with no problems. On Thursday it was six and 1/2 hours down to Lancaster, today 3 1/2 hours back.

Moving the date of Cold Wars is like spinning the revolver cylinder in Russian Roulette. In 1993 one of the worst blizzards in the Northeast happened on March 13--St. Patrick's Day. Although you are tending to be supported by the odds if you plan it later.
Mayfly Wars?
June-bug Wars, anyone?

I think the later it goes in March, the better – statistically. They should also plan FI as close to the Veteran's Day holiday as possible – which they apparently aren't doing. Perhaps they can buy an out-year calendar book with the $50 USDk they socked away last year.

Those pictures are a vast improvement over Thursday AM. I got there around 11:00. I parked in the lot between the Distlefink loading dock and the tennis barn. Nothing had been done. It was bad to the point where cars couldn't get back up the hill to get to the lobby entrance.

I stayed at the Continental right across the road. Lots of parking, great hotel indoor pool and hot tub, free full breakfast prepared by a chef to your order right there, and a wonderful breakfast buffet. No problem getting across the street now that they installed a light and crosswalk right across the hotel. The parking was bad but.. they did have an ice-storm the night before and a snow storm the same day as the start of the convention, which is the only time I remembering this happing in more than a decade.

The host is a fine place for a convention. The food was fine too, but I mostly go off site for my eats.

Star Buffet- right next to the Arby's down the road.

I'm following your advice next time, Otto.. I stayed at the Days Inn which was perfectly adequate but too far away to be really convenient.

Dear Walt

Let me know, we can schedule a game in the Card Room right off the Lobby. The manager is a friend of mine and remember we hold "The Weekend there."

Sean Barnett11 Mar 2015 9:47 p.m. PST

I got to the con around noon on Friday and the parking was a real problem. I luckily found a spot and kept it all weekend but the Host's effort to clear the parking lot was disappointing.
