Oh, I hope this is true. I trust Ridley Scott to do justice to Flash Harry!

benglish05 Mar 2015 1:14 p.m. PST

If it's the first book in the series, set during the first Anglo-Afghan War, it could be seen as fitting in with current events. Maybe that's what finally makes it marketable?

Any votes for who plays Flashy? Apparently Dominic West from THE WIRE is a huge fan of the series. He'd be great.

Hmmmm… Not sure what to think.

BTW he's working on a Blade Runner sequel. Ford is going to be in it. Not sure what to think about that either.

Juan Kerr05 Mar 2015 1:22 p.m. PST

Scott would mess Flashman up terribly.

Legbiter05 Mar 2015 1:25 p.m. PST

Guy Ritchie, or NO-ONE, should do Flashman.

raylev305 Mar 2015 1:52 p.m. PST

It'll be better than "The Royal Flash."

I think either Steve Carell or Bruce Campbell would be great.

Repiqueone05 Mar 2015 2:29 p.m. PST

Agreed, Raylev, that was a poor adaptation. As for who'll play Flashy, I might suggest Jude Law, Chris Hemsworth ( Rush), or Matthew Goode.

The Beast Rampant05 Mar 2015 2:47 p.m. PST

I don't trust Ridley Scott to make a decent hemorrhoid commercial.

willthepiper05 Mar 2015 2:50 p.m. PST

If the movie is based on Flashman (the 1st Anglo-Afghan War book) then none of the actors named would do – they're all too old. Flash was 20 in 1842. Find a newcomer of the right age (more or less) and you could have the start of a franchise!

advocate05 Mar 2015 2:51 p.m. PST

Benedict Cumberbatch would work for me.

I thought Carrell was going to play Brigadier Gerard?

Flashy, with all his faults, looks the part of a cavalryman hero, so Carrell would be a terrible fit.

If it's based on the first book then they'll need someone quite young – so West and Law – though both capable, would be bad choices due to age. Campbell, also too old, and insufficiently "English" I think.

Winston Smith05 Mar 2015 3:06 p.m. PST

John Cleese played a very good "not Flashman" sheriff in… Was it Silverado? Since he was a deputy for Wild Bill Hickock in a giant rat of Sumatra reference…

I just hope it is as politically incorrect as the books and not cleaned up. He has to be a cad and bounder. Otherwise, what's the point?

Repiqueone05 Mar 2015 3:56 p.m. PST

OK, under thirty English actors? Sam Claflin and Aaron Taylor Johnson?

Sobieski05 Mar 2015 5:22 p.m. PST

Timothy Dalton would have been a joy in that role once.

IanKHemm05 Mar 2015 10:32 p.m. PST

Just remember this… In recent years Ridley Scott made Prometheus.

Winston Smith05 Mar 2015 10:42 p.m. PST

I have as much confidence as if I heard that Quentin Tarrantino was doing a movie about Lourdes or Oliver Stone doing Camelot.

Ewan Hoosami05 Mar 2015 11:53 p.m. PST

Forget Flashy, who's up for playing Elspeth? Bless her heart! Again needs to to be quite young and a ravishing beauty!

hocklermp506 Mar 2015 12:34 a.m. PST

And, as Flashy would say, "Randy as a stoat."

Ridley Scott also made 'The Duellists' so I would be quietly optimistic on the look. Getting the right, non-PC, character of the stories correct will be a challenge.

Dragon Gunner06 Mar 2015 6:06 a.m. PST

Prometheus popped into my mind the moment I read his name…

Zargon06 Mar 2015 7:14 a.m. PST

Ridley Scott, please retire before you mess up anything else, your sell-by date is long up.
And BTW Blade Runner is my favourite movie.

axabrax06 Mar 2015 8:46 a.m. PST

I personally think that Ridley Scott is one of the greatest living directors, and I would be interested to know who Mr. hemorrhoid commercial thinks is a better director and why in specific terms.

In any case, I think he could do an awesome Flashman movie. The real quandary is whether they try and make it more an adventure movie or more of a comedy and how they handle how incredibly politically incorrect it will have to be to be faithful to the books. I can already hear various groups whining and complaining!

By the way, Scott is not directing the new Blade Runner movie. I'm not even sure that he's involved in the project at all. Frankly, I think it would be better to let sleeping dogs lie rather than have another geriatric Harrison Ford movie

Cerdic06 Mar 2015 12:37 p.m. PST

How about Aidan Turner as Flash?

The last time I checked, Scott was debating to direct. Looks kike he made up his mind.

War In 15MM06 Mar 2015 6:13 p.m. PST

I think Ridley Scott has made some great movies.

Repiqueone07 Mar 2015 4:47 a.m. PST

According to several Hollywood sites, Michael Fassbender has signed to play Flashman. Fassbender worked with Scott on Prometheus. It appears the movie will use several of the novels as a source. It's unclear that it will be a series as even successful period films, such as Master and Commander, have trouble getting a second installment funded. Just Google Flashman, Fassbender, and Scott.

Flashy was tall, handsome, and able to lie through his teeth to escape any and all repercussions of his total lack of mores. A bounder and a cad with a public image of upright bravado, honesty, and daring.

DontTreadOnMe09 Jun 2015 9:54 a.m. PST

I hope it's a hit. Ridley hasn't made a really good movie in years sadly.

138SquadronRAF18 Jun 2015 9:05 a.m. PST

It'll be better than "The Royal Flash."

Well the movie's script was written by GMF, so he must have thought it was acceptable.
