Another purely practical question about basing, or flight stands as the case may be.

I have some small sci-fi drones and fantasy fliers that I would like to mount on clear flight stands. The classic, "standard" clear plastic flight stands with which many of us are familiar (as seen here) strike me as a bit too hefty and non-discreet for figures this small. I checked Litko but found nothing smaller. I suspect no one manufactures what I'm after but I'm asking anyway.

Failing that, is there any source for cheap, thin clear rod (or stiff wire) that doesn't have to be bought in huge quantities? Something not terribly much thicker than 1mm would be ideal. The figures in question are quite lightweight.

I can always make my own non-clear ones but it's clear ones that I'd prefer.

C-in-C used to make wire flight-stands, maybe that would work.

It sounds like the sort of thing Tumbling Dice might do or could get hold of – worth dropping them a line.

Spring-steel wire is available at most Hobbytown locations. They also have carbon-fiber rod in the r/c airplane section.

You can also contact Litko Aerosystems and see if they can do some smaller acrylic flight stands for you.

How tall are you looking for?

I think I like a thin stiff wire better than thicker clear rod. But it is the base that's the bulk. Does that need to be clear?

They don't have to be very tall, only about the same height as "standard" flight bases or a bit lower, so maybe 3-4 cm from the bottom of the base.

Clear bases would be ideal, but I think I have that covered if I have to make my own (Litko sells small clear bases), so it's only thin clear rod or clear stiff wire I'd need. That's assuming I don't find a "complete" product.

Thanks to all for the suggestions so far. I'll start looking into them immediately.

I think that, for the right price, Litko will make any size you want.
